A MEGA Question?

I finally got a MEGA account. Got a question for people who have had one for a long time. I've only linked one file right now. When I linked the file I got a warning about copyright issues and stuff, has that been standard for a while, or is that something new they're doing?

I think I may have realized that we are now in the age (aeon?) where life as we know it has become one MEGA (no pun intended) drive to acquire the most accounts, or... "THE Account!", Which one is That? My wife is not as resistant to opening accounts as I am at all. She has many more than I do, and I have a few more than I likely really need. What it looks like to me now is that if you don't have every new spiffy account in cyberspace you're plainly not one of the cognoscenti? Am I deluding myself here? WTF! Still I'm glad that I can now share stuff with my Shiny New MEGA Account! :ROFLMAO:

Surprisingly my several-years-old Mega still functions. I probably did get the friendly warning as it legally covers their ass, allowing them to delete the account at their dis/pleasure for any reason. The concept of "ownership" is tenuous at best in cyberspace. Enjoy things while they last and reminisce about them decades from now.

If I'd have to open another mega account for the third time now after my first two wiht 16 GB and 19 GB respectively were deleted, I'd replace all book titles with random characters and maybe pack them into a pass-worded zip file. In retrospect, it seems that they operate on a three-strikes-and-you're-out basis as far as copyright complaints were concerned but didn't comb pro-actively through all their files for copyright infringement. If one of your files get deleted for such reasons, it's best not to re-upload it again in order not to risk another complaint.

I read your post and, in my opinion, the best solution is to encrypt files with 7zip and a 256AES password and after upload them to MEGA. Change the name of the folder containing the encrypted file before. Another good solution could be to use an alternative hosting service like Terabox -->

that offers 1TB free drive space. Test it before. But my ultimate advise is to encrypt files before to upload them so you can be calm.

There is no need to encrypt anything on mega - they don't bother checking what a file is, and don't search their archives for duplicates - their DMCA system is mostly automated - so if someone complains about a file it will be deleted whether it is a named pdf, or an encrypted archive, and you will get a warning, or have your account closed.

The only real way to prevent this happening is to ensure that links to the files do not appear on easily & commonly searched platforms like social media, since in my experience those are the platforms where copyright owners are most likely to find out where their works are being pirated, and most likely to try to do something about it.
