After doing a Hellenistic natal chart and interpreting it, I can absolutely understand why we have a whole bunch of systems for interpreting planets. Someone got a shitty chart like me, so they created a new system. The new system disappointed another guy and we kept the thing going until we arrived with the modern "psychological" readings...

Anyhow, I got a reading that is somewhat true - hard to properly assess how accurate these are, especially since they deal with the future. However, it is also very inauspicious. I don't want to get into details, so I'll proceed to the question - how do you treat your charts? My take is - that is a state of affairs during birth, so synchronicity have it that this child was born then. So it sort of kind of pushes the child that path. But how hard? No idea, is it a nudge or is it a kick? Some other people seem to think these are hard ceilings and if we force the world to bend, whatever we gain will be short lived. That the path "prescribed" in a chart is the path of least resistance.

I spent a good amount of time on this stuff and I am not sure if it was a good investment. Left me with confusion at best and another bad inner belief to fight at worst (you are destined to toil serf!). Sure, there is some stuff to consider, some mirror-facing type of exercise in it, but it is expensive time-wise.

These are all good questions. There is an old maxim from the 1970s that goes "The stars don't compel, they impel." The birth chart provides a roadmap or blueprint that we can follow or not as we choose once we adequately understand what it's saying and what the rewards and consequences might be of pursuing or diverging from the path that has been laid out. I began as a psychological astrologer but more recently moved into classical seven-planet astrology because its "temperaments and humours" are adequate to understand human nature at the functional level. I don't get much value out of predictive methods like secondary progressions and solar/planetary returns but I do pay attention to major transits (forget retrograde Mercury, if it doesn't tie directly into my natal horoscope its a transitory event along with other temporary "sky patterns" that scientists might call "statistical crud." My main source of reliable astrological forecasts these days is horary.

Well, that's the point. If we don't like our lot as shown in the chart, we can actively work to change the path. At least we will know where we're starting from and what we have to work with.

Don't tough placements show where effort is required, rather than pointless actions? isnt the whole point of it your soul's growth which isnt bad or pointless? Can't 6th house themes like service, health, daily work, be places of meaning and/or skill building even if they're not... glamorous?

We assume that it’s possible to influence things in our lives, primarily those that depend on us, that we have the ability to change or adapt them according to our own desires. However, we are born with a certain temperament and a quality of mind (an emotional setup, a way of thinking, and a way of interacting with the world around us), therefore all of our decisions and actions are essentially conditioned by our natal chart.
In this regard, if your chart "says" you will improve yourself (because your mind’s quality is such it allows you to), then you will achieve that. But if you are not given that ability, then your mindset simply won’t go in that direction. If you're born as a choleric who is stubborn, unflexible, harsh, doesn't listen to anyone and whatever else, those personal traits which were given to you at birth will mold your choices, decisions and actions which consequently steers some bad events.

Your comment reminds me of something I once read about human psychology: personality (as encoded in the natal chart) is innate, while character (what we choose to do with the charts' promise) is learned behavior.

This is an excellent question. Your natal chart signifies your fate. The ancients believed daimons or gods presided over your allotment in life. And they were not wrong. Here is where it gets interesting – your fate can be altered. Or at least improved. Do not rely on a superficial astrology of Sun signs. Figure out your Almuten. Above all, do not share your chart with anyone.

The natal chart shows the starting point on your journey, but it is up to you to walk your own path. You must make your own choices in life. Only you can dictate what your goals are and what you will do to approach them. Your natal chart says that you started in a rough place, and that sucks, but that doesn't dictate what your future must be.
