Does the core of the Rosicrucian myth actually speak of vampires?

More then ten years ago, an acquaintance of mine, who lives in Northern Europe, complained to me that a certain Rosicrucian was astraly stalking and vampirizing her. I immediately thought she was imagining things or had confused people, because, for heaven's sake, Rosicrucians don’t engage in such things! They are devotees of light—would they, as such, even dabble in something as bizarre as “energetic vampirism”? However, she told me she wasn’t imagining it, that she dreamed of him, felt his presence at night by her bed, and so on. I asked her how she knew it was him? I thought she might have been projecting something herself. She told me it was an friend of her boyfriend, who, like this vampire, was a member of a respected neo-Rosicrucian association. At the time, I dismissed the case as her paranoia and kind of madness.

Then, a few years ago, I met a pale, frail, and sickly girl, the daughter of someone I know, who was in exceptionally poor health. After she survived clinical death, according to her story, she somehow connected with the spirit of a well-known Rosicrucian who had long since passed away. The girl suddenly became wise, began speaking Latin and German, and had incredible insights into various esoteric matters. Her parents were desperate, not knowing what to do with her. A year later, she passed away. The doctors couldn’t pinpoint her illness—she was simply weak, thin, anemic, and her heart suddenly stopped. I remember she communicated astraly with that "Rosicrucian."

Perhaps in both cases, it wasn’t about Rosicrucians at all, but the myth of the founder of the Rosicrucian brotherhood—Christian Rosenkreuz, remember, states that his tomb was opened after 120 years and that his body was perfectly preserved. Wait, who needs to preserve a body? Why was his tomb even opened? Anyone who has read Manly P. Hall's book The Secret Teachings of All Ages in the chapter on Rosicrucians might have come across the author’s claims that their adepts preserved their bodies in some kind of glass retorts, from which they occasionally emerged. So, how many more clues do we need to finally understand what this is really about? It is impossible for someone to exist in a state of hibernation for an unnaturally long time, to occasionally awaken, and then return to their previous state, all without drawing energy from the living.

I can’t say that everyone who claims to be a Rosicrucian is simultaneously a vampire. That’s not true, but at the very core of the Rosicrucian myth lies the story of the undead Christian Rosenkreuz. Let’s also recall what Israel Regardie wrote in his extensive book on the Golden Dawn when he mentioned three Rosicrucian adepts who lived for several hundred years. So, if these aren’t vampires, then I have a bridge to sell you. However, unlike the stereotypical LHP "children of the night" vampires, here we’re dealing with RHP vampires of light, so-called luxferates... You know, they hide behind smiles and understanding eyes... ;) Finally, didn’t Rudolf Steiner, Max Heindel, and Guy Ballard claim that Rosenkreuz later appeared as the famous Count of St. Germain (also a vampire)?

ugh you sound like an old member called Roma....
an old acquaintance of mind once said vampirism is by definition white and rhp. it is also said that the most evil ones are the ones who enjoy the ride and live with a smile and a happy surrounding. with willing victims so to say, with soul level agreements and care for carnal life.

There is a novel by Michael Talbot called The Delicate Dependency where vampires essentially operate as Rosicrucians. They're a secret society of alchemists which guide humanity in various directions. This novel, in tone, draws on the idea popular in the fin de siècle, especially in France, where a "Rosicrucian" is a kind of decadent artist, giving flesh to dreams. Like the decadent artists of France and England, Talbot's vampires are also erotic aesthetes and the idea of vampire as initiator into a dream world of wonder and pleasure is as old as Jonathan Harker knocking on the doors of Castle Dracula. Another resonant association of the fin de siècle, made popular through Huysmans' Là-bas, is the idea that some Rosicrucians secretly worship the Devil. All very alluring, all very Wintruz.

In reality, I would suggest that those who think of themselves as Lighter than Light are often even more prone to their own predatory nature than those who own their nature as a predator. In thinking they're beyond the basic instincts, they're blind to how those instincts still influence their thoughts. At the most extreme, these Holy Adepts live in

, all paid for by their impoverished followers, all while maintaining that, in their purity, they're beyond any predatory instincts. Anyone who thinks this same principle doesn't apply to the leaders of various RHP esoteric organisations is a fool.

On the other hand, a person who sees life in terms of predator and prey, sees how that principle operates all the time, how animals constantly take from other, often weaker, animals. This leads to one of three things happening:
  1. The fledgling vampire decides they're going to be bigger and better at taking and they become a monster/venture capitalist. If they're not particularly intelligent, they'll stay at this level (and live in constant fear that their prey will band together and polish the guillotine), but if they're intelligent...
  2. They become bigger and better at taking and then realise that real power, pleasure and wisdom comes not from being a monster but from exchanging energy. This becomes deeply alchemical and beneficial for all involved. They operate as initiators, shamans, artists, mysterious but benevolent strangers.
  3. The Darwinist horror of it all becomes too much and they become deeply pessimistic about the nature of reality. This can involve forays into Gnosticism and Buddhism.
These three states are not isolated from each other. Often there's a pattern of being at Level 1, then Level 3 and finally Level 2. All of this is unavailable to someone who believes they're beyond their basic instincts but all of it is open to someone who accepts, works with and transforms those instincts.

In terms of the specific Rosicrucian myth you've referenced, their thinking is that the Rosicrucian body is incorruptible because consciousness has so purified itself that the vehicle too has moved beyond corruptibility. The vampire mythos reverses this: it energises the body so that the body is replenished, keeping entropy at bay, letting consciousness do more work for longer. Magically, these systems are working in different directions.

The whole basis and founding mythology of Rosicrucianism is decidedly false. If it wasn't we might have a vampire epidemic on our hands.

You nailed it to the core here.

The ossuaries of Athos, the famous "monastic republic" of Orthodox Christianity in Greece, house the skulls of deceased monks. The monks believe that the color and smell of the skeletal remains can be used to judge who will deserve a heavenly abode at the Last Judgment. The bones of the righteous, the monks say, smell of basil and have a darker yellow hue, as if they were made of wax. The washed skulls are placed on shelves, and the rest of the skeletons are placed in a large common crypt. On one occasion, a monk mentioned to one my friend who visited them the existence of several completely black skulls that are not exposed to the views of visitors, but are nevertheless kept. These black skulls belonged to those monks who had succumbed to demonic forces. Then I wondered, how is it possible to be a Christian monk and a Satanist at the same time? And what was happening to those black-skulled monk brothers anyway? I wonder how much Boris Balkan would pay for one of those black skulls? I don't know, but I have a feeling that those black skull monks might be vampiric in nature.
