Most of this is basically taken from the Art of Dreaming by Carlos Castaneda and Liber Obsidian Obscura by Alexander W. Dray, the gates I write about are from these sources.
I think dream sorcery might very well be one of the most difficult and most impressive things any human can undertake. The dream realm really is unlimited and unknown.
The basic paradigm we're working with here is that when you dream you are inhabiting your energy body. The energy body is made up of what is basically sexual energy, it's a finer substance than even your physical body. Your mind intuitively creates the energy body to have the same qualities as your physical body. The shape, the capacity for sight and hearing is all there as essentially an expression of information about your physical body.
There are several "gates" of dreaming which represent different levels of mastery. There are two components to each gate. The dream sorcerer must reach the gate, then the dream sorcerer must cross the gate.
First Gate
The first gate is reached by simply lucid dreaming, just attaining waking consciousness of the fact that you are dreaming.
There are several methods of achieving this. In order to improve dream recall, one keeps a dream diary, in which all details of dreams are recorded. Over time this will gradually increase dream recall. To actually hit the point of being lucid in the dream, one proven method is to make a personal commitment to look for something while dreaming. One's hands will do as they are always readily available. This thought sitting on the subconscious will surface while one is dreaming and when you complete the action of looking for it you will make the conscious connection that you made that commitment while you were awake, and there you are... lucid dreaming. Sleeping in an uncomfortable position can also help.
After getting good at finding ones hands you can start planning on finding 3 or 4 more objects in the dream. Upon finding ones hands and becoming lucid you quickly look around and find the other objects. This just increases your skill and consistency with the first gate.
After some time mastering the first gate the dream body, or the aetheric double, will start to take on a more solid, regular, tangible form. This development of the energy body will be important for progressing though the next gates.
Second Gate
The second gate should only be attempted after the first gate is mastered which could take weeks or years. The second gate is where you master the act of waking up from a dream into another dream. This act requires utmost discipline and control. By the time you attempt this you should have been keeping a dream journal consistently for a while. When you keep a dream journal the dream double becomes aware that the sorcerer is paying attention to the content of the dreams. The consistent recording of dreams brings an ordinary act into the realm of the non-ordinary and creates an energetic bridge between the two realms. This bridge is essential to one's mastery of the 2nd gate.
A.W. Dray describes his first experience with the the 2nd gate when he was lucid dreaming and decided to will a ring onto his finger. He said what he felt was "the equivalent of being thrown up against the second gate and smashed into pieces" then he felt like he was spiraling around and woke up with a a spasmodic pain in his abdomen. He says that this happened because his willful attempt to bring an item into the dream was actually an attempt to turn the dream into a different dream and therefore an act of the second gate (any act of traveling to a different dream counts, waking up into another dream is just apparently the most effective). He said if his energy body was stronger at that time he could've done it, but it wasn't so he was smashed into pieces.
So the drills of the first gate are always kept up to continue strengthening the energy body and the act of waking up into another dream is practiced and honed, now this is where things get interesting. There are inorganic beings which are referred to as “dream scouts” that appear in people’s dreams, apparently searching for the beings that are awakened enough to notice them. These scouts, once noticed, can lead the dreamer to the “Labyrinth of Penumbra,” the realm of inorganic sentient beings. This is a subject of interest for the black magician who wishes to transcend the human form. Much can be learned about spirituality by interacting with this realm.
Third Gate
The third gate is reached when the dreamer finds himself gazing upon his own sleeping form. At this point the dream sorcerer is at a point where he must “complete the energy double.” He must finish the act of solidifying the dream double to a point that it can exist independently from the body and be free. He must finish the energy body so it can be in “one piece” at any time. Crossing the third gate consists of this work of completing the double.
Fourth Gate
The fourth gate is reached when one has crossed the third gate and finds themselves able to freely traverse the earth and other energetic worlds in their non-physical energy form.
Fifth Gate
The fifth gate is attained when the dream sorcerer goes to sleep with the intent to wake up in another person’s dream. This is often done in order to steal their energy. This practice allows the sorcerer to attain untold power over the lives and affairs of others.
Sixth Gate
The sixth gate is reached when the sorcerer has learned to vampyrically gather energy though dreams. Apparently a certain amount is given to the inorganic beings which the sorcerer at this level has to have made a pact with to continue his energetic exploits unabated. This energy can also be used to “revivify” the physical body of the sorcerer and keep him young. (It’s often pointed out that vampiric black magicians maintain a youthful look even in old age.)
The 7th gate is only very vaguely referred to in the reading I’ve done and all I can say is it has something to do with the total realignment of the energy body in some way. I believe it is at this point that “non-physical immortality” can be said to have been reached.
Anyway I acknowledge that this post is not complete and leaves room for questions. I didn’t talk about “intent” which is a hugely important factor in all of this. I also didn’t go into a few other things. Feel free to ask questions, I may have to pull a Shadow for some information because this is really very valuable information and the amount that I’ve shared already is really incredible.
