[Help] How to meet occultists IRL

Hey, do you guys know how to meet occultists IRL? My first instinct was to go to an occult shop and take a class or something, but all the people at the shop I checked out looked like out of shape fucked up sjw redditor freaks. You know the lolcow guy Chris Chan? Kinda like that. It's like; how good can your magick possibly be if you're in that state? I wanna meet real occultists that do real magick and actually get results and are able better their lives, not hobbyists or posers. I thought about joining a local temple order, but they require you to be covid vaccinated. Screw that noise. To be fair, I haven't been to every occult shop in my city. Should I just keep looking around? No one knows I'm an occultist. I keep my practice hidden, but it would be nice to have someone else to talk to.

If you actually practiced something effective, you could just draw someone to you.

Be that as it may, most occultists of whatever stripe are not worth knowing.

Do a working to draw occultists with certain characteristics to you, if looking for a peer, or do a working to find a mentor.
Think of it as a working similar to a lover drawing spell, but without romance part.

I think your attitude about what constitutes a "serious occultist" is what's stopping you from meeting them in the first place. Everyone has a unique perspective and experience and can become a source of knowledge for us.
I am a member of a coven that I found through a website specifically for occult groups to list their contact info and throw a net out for interested individuals. I can't link it, but it's called Mandragora. If the owner of that group had possessed the same mindset about "real" or "serious" occultists/wizards/witches etc as you do right now, I probably would've never gotten off the ground in my occult studies and there is no telling what my life would look like right now. For the worse is the only certainty I have on that thought.
My local library helped me set up a Writer's Workshop with another man from my town who I only recently learned is also a practicioner of sorts, but because I knew the kind of person he is (or at least think I knew he is) I somewhat disregarded him as effectual or serious at his practice in any sense. But then it dawned on me that a person's ill-chosen priorities does not mean they are not effective magicians, and this man has a very unique way of looking at the world (to put things lightly, he has an obsession with fictional serial killers and openly discussed cursing people he doesn't like) and so I quickly flipped my opinion and consider the potential he could be a proficient, and even dangerous, practicioner.

This is all to say, you should not be so flippant towards people who on the outside may look like their lives are a wreck and falling apart, for magic (manifestation that is) doesn't care about anything except will and intention, and you may be overlooking the serious occultists you so crave the company of, as well as leaving yourself vulnerable to potential dangers with your underestimation of ability.

I think you're right. Maybe if I put out a blanket request for spiritual types to meet with me, the right person will come along. Maybe I can even convert the new age types to magick and show them a thing or two. But, it's just, sigh I hate having to do everything. No one taught me anything, I had to look everything up myself. Why do I have to teach other people? Where's my mentor? My master miyagi that teaches me shit and makes things easy for me? When I think about how quickly I could catch someone up to my level compared to how long it took me to learn everything on my own, it rubs me the wrong way. Sometimes having Saturn as a chart ruler is a real pain in the ass. Whatever. If it has to be done it has to be done. I just wish I had my own big bro figure that showed me the way and took out all the guesswork and saved me time.

It's a well known concept in education, that certains degrees of knowledge are attainable only by teaching.

Yeah, I think there's also a phenomenon where people are actually better at giving good advice to others than themselves and you're better at learning things when you think you're gonna have to teach them to someone else. I've noticed whenever I get stuck on a self tarot reading, if I just start acting like the reading is for someone else by talking out loud in the second person, I'm able to get the meaning of the cards and finish the reading.
