Seriously, if you can tell me what reality is, I will find something against it. It's not necessarily a black or white issue.

Please help me understand

In a nutshell, black magic is generally used for selfish ends, or against the will of another; compared to magic for unselfish ends. it often is diametrically opposed to “good” magic in the sense it often is used for negative or harmful purposes. There was a user named Shadow around many years ago - not sure if still here - that was very enlightening on the subject (I learned much from our discussions, great chap) and could probably answer more concisely.

There are many ways to view this. Some people believe in literal theosophical satanism, while other satanists just believe in the power of the individual. That often gets lumped up as “black” magic (compared to the idea of ”white” magic being striving for unity with the Source). Also, magic that could possibly involve spirits of anything ‘infernal’ or of the earth, against that of ‘celestial’. “black magic” could mean anything not with immediate focus to ‘god’ in mind either. A lot of people in “black” magic have power trips and want power for material things like money or love, compared to magic of “higher striving” etc and etc and etc.… it can be hashed so so so many ways..

Magic is just magic. It’s all about intent.

omg as a note, I can’t believe people still take E.A. Koetting seriously. It’s been ages since I read that name, completely forgot about him
and now I wish I forgot about him again lol groan On most other boards he is quickly dismissed as a crack pot and laughed off the boards.

Typing this on my phone (gasp) so I would add more but maybe later. Just some quick blurbs from my point of view. I’m sure others can add their perspectives on it.

The term 'black magic' has largely lost its meaning among practitioners and mainly lives on in fiction because after all, 'white magic' sounds just lame if you want to tell a juicy yarn. Historically, it came to be employed for what sociologists call 'othering' - "No, Mr. Chief Inquisitor, I practice natural magic like astrology and alchemy, not black magic like those yucky other people do, to the stake with them!" Which worked sporadically until the Church decided that all magic was black magic anyway. Until the late 20th century, 'black magician' was what snobbish white-lighter mages called their enemies, followed by a transition phase where some authors grudgingly allowed that so-called 'grey magic' was ok under certain circumstances, until post-modernism, moral relativism and chaos magic exploded the whole concept of variously coloured magic, and good riddance.

In my mind, magic is an expression of your own personality and life goals. You no longer have the Holy Inquisiton to fear, only your own conscience and possibly the ridicule of your friends and co-workers. Wanna sacrifice a goat as a part of your ritual? Classic black magic, right? But animal sacrifice used to be a part of ancient ceremonies and Judaism (if I remember correctly, Mary and Joseph sacrificed two turtle doves to say thanks for Jesus' birth). Most Satanists abhor animal sacrifice; however, practitioners from cultures where livestock is routinely slaughtered by the farmers themselves will see it differently.

Self-styled 'black magicians' nowaddays are mostly cartoonish Goth louts and wannabes, and one day I'll scrape together a collection of

from annas-archive.org so we can all have a good laugh. What do you call a magician who works with demons? Answer: a magician who works with demons. Nobody gives a shit about 'black' or 'white magic' anymore.

I can’t believe people still take E.A. Koetting seriously
Just a quick note: I made a mistake - I thought the person in the video I posted was E.A. Koetting talking about E.A. Koetting.
This based on similitude to his mugshot.

Also, based on prior percepts, I mistakenly judged that when someone who "doesn't know anything" walks in the door and uses the term "black magic", they are generally referring to all magic by virtue of their stated ignorance.

until post-modernism
Yes, the meltdown starts here with "hyper-reality". It is the case where the sign or symbol system no longer refers to anything concrete - even in the sense of mentated rational precepts, but merely refer to themselves in a twisted matrix of self-reinforcing circular arguments that can be as simple as "I am a magician, I wear black, therefore I am a black magician."

It's wicked by virtue of the utter lack of wickedness.

In expression of general agreement with the above posts (minus mine), I will state that if you want to know what black magic really is, then take heed of the words of Protagoras: "Man is the measure of all things."

How that messes with reality is a matter of pure skepticism (in a classical sense) as an anti-ethic that can be found in all walks of life where image lacks substance, because there is no substance, only perceptions reflected against self identity.

I want to the powers of superman
There we go!
The expression of this desire is helpful in determining the context of your query.
So, what are the qualities of "superman"? That is, what are the powers you seek? List them and present them for examination please.

Are you the guy in the video? I know him personally. He killed a cat live on stream and got locked up.

I am trying to remember if I ever offered a cigarette to Azazel...
I'm not sure...

If there was ever a time that I killed a cat, it was long before live stream, and the internet would have still been just a communications backup in case of nuclear war. I am that old.

Other than that, I plead the title of the thread: "I don't know anything"
