Hi everyone, i’m Vitorino from Brazil, in the middle of the Amazon Forest. New to to the world of forums and not a huge english speaker haha

As religion, i am a follower of Umbanda, afro-brazilian religion centered on the cult and relationship with our ancestry and the ancestors of our land. But my spirituality goes beyond that.

I’m interested in dream working, all kinds of oracles (carteomancy, runes, quiromancy, geomancy and etc.), traditional witchcraft, western occult tradition and currently studying goêteia (by writings of Frater Acher and Jake Stratton-Kent).

Hoping to find other brazilians around and open for conversation with everyone!

Abraço.

Hi Vitorino and welcome .

Does your Umbanda have a high content of candomble , drumming, dance . spirit possession ?

( I encountered that with Vodoun ... and I am a drummer as well ;) . I have had some experience with certain rhythms being associated with certain Gods and Goddess ... but that was from Ecuador , and I am not sure how much of a Brazilian element was in that .

Voudon ... Papa Legba ;

Hi, Firetree!

Well, umbanda and candomblé are different religions though (by origin, influences and practices), but in our terreiro (the place of worship) we do work with both ones. My pai-de-santo (our main priest) is initiated in candomblé for more than 13 years too.

But yes! The drum in both religions is a fundamental part, it's a orixa (a divine force) by itself, the bridge between Ayê (the earth) and Orum (the heaven), the ancestors and gods. In candomblé each orixa has it unique toque (rhythm) and pontos (songs) for calling. For example, for the orixá Oxum, golden lady of the sweet water, we play the IJEXÁ:

LOve it ! and thanks for the video ! My XGF that I used to drum with ( with the Sth American rhythms ) was excellent with 'cow bells ' and also with triangulo . They seem simple but... she got da rhythm !

I went to a few African drum workshops with this guy teaching , he lived in Africa for years . He wanted to learn drumming but no . Eventually he talked them into it, he had to live in the village and was only allowed to touch a cow bell and practice on that for 6 months before they taught him anything else ... but wow is he shit hot now

a firm foundation allows a tall tower to be built ;)

any info or music you want to post ... I will appreciate it

Bugglebear Bunarhm !
