Dangerous device. It can be used to cloak one's meaning, but at the price of misunderstanding. Spoken, it's easily detected. Written, far harder to pick up on. I imagine AI programs will eventually be written to detect irony for the near future when irony becomes presumptive evidence of "hatethought" (most likely in the UK. At the moment, one can still say "That's nucking futz"and not have it assumed his meaning was the opposite.
