Is magick supposed to change how you think?

I only noticed recently. But I've had a lot of bullshit thrown at me which has made me more emotional than I normally would.

I'm stressed so I try harder at magick. I try harder at magick so my thoughts change. My worldview begins to change. I feel different, and I start to see the world as I would under the influence of drugs, despite being sober for two weeks.

I have a migraine and I feel funny. I don't have my normal coping mechanisms with me so I'm debating just falling asleep.

It's less magic changing the way you think and more you changing the way you think to do magic. It's a subtle distinction but a very important one to recognize and understand. That said if you have any latent emotional issues magic does have a way of bringing them to the fore, but that's more because magic starts and ends with the mind, including the subconscious parts of it.

I don't really know about that. I find it difficult to see results most of the time and I think I would have given up and moved on if it had no effect on me.

Yeah I think I can see that, but it's also brought out some baggage that I otherwise have not known what do deal with. I still don't know how to deal with it, but it feels changed somehow.

To be less vague, I want success but this brings up past trauma that's kneecapped me throughout my life. Some of this still remains with a deadbeat mother who is an emotional drain on my life and has been worse since my car got broken. I have issues changing my circumstances and have for years. If I can somehow get a cheap house and job with a livable wage, I'd probably be fine. I just have no idea how.

Yes I know, that's better for a different subforum.

Magic is basically hacking your own brain, so an amount of change in your thinking is a natural result.

And this, IMO, is the real reason why magic is "dangerous". It's possible to really screw yourself up.

I may start a thread on this subject, but do you classify reading as a act of magick in your viewpoint?

In my experience reading has done both good and bad for me. The worst part is that the more i learn the more i distance myself from the rest of the people i am surrounded by — as it feels. It makes me beg the question "should i just view the objective world itself as a book rather than look to physical books and ebooks as the path to knowledge?"

My coping mechanism is to take a long nature hike by myself if im going through something very severe. Usually i will find a place to sit usually around a stream or a bridge going over part of a lake or pond.

My perspective on that is that you must be in a state of mind to do magick and that it does have the ability to change your state of mind after performing the magick. My conclusion to why the state of mind matters is due from my own personal experience with that — which brought me to studying this stuff in the first place.

I use my daylight time to do important things, but you might be right and that I should do a quick walk today. I do usually go for walks when I'm burned out anyway.

If it's dangerous, I don't think I knew before or would have believed it anyway. Seems too late to resort to disbelief anyhow. Onwards!

Any serious spiritual practice, overtly magickal or not, will lead to significant changes in your weltanschaaung and how you think otherwise. It's just best to figure out the right way for developing your mind towards wholeness rather than greater fragmentation.

Yes, and that's part of the point of it. Although the change in thinking isn't the only one, from what I've noticed it seems to result from a change in being.

If there is no change, it's sorcery. And internal changes move to external changes (and vice versa): you cannot be an accomplished magician and live in your parents' basement eating junk food all day, unemployed or working a job you hate.

Via a certain combination of circumstances, you become aware of yourself, which allows you to change things - the expression of 'you', your environment.
