Magical Ancestors & Genealogy

Exploring my family history from a magical viewpoint is increasingly interesting to me these days. I did not come from a family with an occult tradition, they were just Muggles. But I think it's interesting that so many witchcraft and occult schools cite genealogical or spiritual ancestors. For example, Tubal-Cain is considered a progenitor of many witchcraft lineages. In Hindu magic, they adapt the gotra system of mainstream Hinduism and claim descent from Vedic seers. Sufi orders trace and document their lineage to Sufi masters.

I don't belong to any lodge so I'm magically investigating my family history and my own soul's history to locate a real lineage that feels authentic to my magical path. Does anyone have advice on how to go about this? Books you recommend?
