How do you feel about having pets in the same room as you doing magical rituals, theurgic, spellwork, etc? For context my hubby bought a betta fish and it is in the same studio/room apt where I do my magical rituals and prayers, I have been lowering my magical practices until blue cheese accumulate to the tank and the house. I can't remove the pet from the studio btw.

In term of magical rituals, I try to keep it benign in-doors and only do crazier stuff outdoor, I also been doing some slightly more experimental magic but don't know if that's something that fish can sense and/or harmed by it?

One idea I had is drawing a protective seal or charm on the outside of the tank to keep it spiritually protected or to keep a protective charm/cross beside the tank.

I am open to all suggestions and ideas on this!

That is a good idea and very thoughtful. Intuition tells me that as long as your magick is not overpowered or ill-intended, a fish is too different a wavelength (or whatever it is!) to tune into your magick and be affected by it. But that said - I like your thoughtful idea.

Charm, crystal or protective circle should be enough to protect the animal. If you are worried, than maybe the protection is not secure enough. There are various protection methods basing on what work you are doing. Maybe some thoughts on protect the animal the same way you would protect yourself from that being attack?

And then some thoughts like... if you work with fae that cannot stand metal, then some pieces of metal, like keys would be quite effective.
If it cannot cross the circle, then circle around aquarium? Ort you can draw bigger circle around the area you do magic in to prevent anything to get out of the circle?
And so on and so on.

I think that after building proper protection for the fish you should feel it working. (you are no beginner, right?) Then you can do the work in peace.

Just a late thought: if you protect yourself with LBRP, you should do one over the fish. Just to add to the point. Protective ritual over you? Protective ritual over the fish too.

I don't know about fish, but my dogs are always with me. I meditate with them, I give them reiki, and since they both sleep in my bed they join me in dreamwork, prayer and pathworking. Spells do not bother them in the slightest, nor does spirit work. They have been in the presence of pretty much everything from elementals, angelics, and tutelary spirits to daemons and have never been bothered or showed signs of distress. In fact, they rather enjoy it, and like to nap where I do rituals. Of course, I have them shielded, watched over and protected, so there is that.

However, they have a real problem with what I call "hybrid spirits" such as the one's that are created through gematria and have a zero tolerance policy in regards to interdimensional visitors and wayward spirits (restless dead). One such critter I had to de-aggregate with extreme prejudice because it was driving my boys completely nuts and simply refused to leave. They also show an extreme aversion to what lives in the basement, but you know, animals are pure love, magick incarnate, and because I have one door to the inner worlds always open they live in sacred space. That is its own protection. Nothing that I would not give the license to depart can ever enter. Over all though, I would say that animals are not only extremely responsive to magick but that they are keyed in on it. They understand it better than we do. Farm animals in particular, as well as wild animals such as hawks, owls, coyotes, fox, badgers and skunks, bats and snakes, all will go out of their way to interact with you in decidedly magickal ways.

But then there are cats, and they do their own magick even on those that they choose as their keepers, and in a way, most of them don't give a shit. They are children of Bast, which is a special case, and if anything ever attacked me, be it a spirit or a person, I would call on Her to take care of it as she took care of Apep. So, I would say that unless you do the kind of magick that messes you up your pets will be fine. They would die for you, in any case, psychic sponges that they are, and will and do absorb your shadows, so if you are being naughty with yourself they will know, and it won't matter where you do it because they are your emotional barometers and your teachers. There is no hiding from them.

Your post remind me my first magical ceremonies when I was eleven. I used a spell from G. Dunwitch 'Everyday Wicca' a blessing of a cat. All my animals then were blessed with that spell. I usually left them free access to my room in most cases. Except experiments using a lot of flammable objects and fumes in that cases doors were closed. I treat all my pets as kind of familiar and helpers and keep some remains ofb5hem in my medicine bag.
