Subject: Poetry and Magic
Poetry and magic go hand in hand and often reflect the author's vision of the unknown, the fantasy of the unspeakable, the dreams and mysteries ofa world which exist beyond our imagination. In other words, we might say there is something peculiarly "magical" about poetry in literature. I want to share here a beautiful poem by one of the world's most genius brain, the Irish poet, dramatist, and writer: William Butler Yeats who wrote about the Celtic Twilight and had a long-standing interest in the Magick, Occult and Supernatural, as the little poem is also called.
by William Butler Yeats
"Here in the pitch-dark atmosphere above
The trembling of the apple and the yew,
Here on the anniversary of their death,
The anniversary of their first embrace,
Those lovers, purified by tragedy,
Hurry into each other’s arms; these eyes,
By water, herb and solitary prayer
Made aquiline, are open to that light …"
