When I make enchanted tools and talismans for a client I always consecrate them myself and then give a consecration rite to the client to dedicate the object to themselves. My client is paying me for the talisman or item because they are paying for my relationship with the diety or spirit that is lending power to the object. So it goes in a few steps.
1. Astrological consecration
2. My consecration, this is an appeal to the spirit or diety to activate the talisman in a way that I can either sell or will work for the client
3. Client's consecration, this is them establishing their personal spiritual authority and relationship with the spirit that inhabits the item or talisman.
The client is not established in a relationship with the spirit in question as I am which is why they are purchasing the talisman from me in the first place. So consecrating the item for the client is essential in that I am
- 1. Getting permission from the spirit in question
- 2. Performing the service which is not selling a dead item but a magical object
- 3. Lending my expertise with the spirit in question to the client
then the client's personal consecration further powers the object by
- 1. Establishing their connection and relationship to the spirit
- 2. Establishing their personal spiritual authority
Now it goes without saying that crafting and consecrating your own tools is always going to be more powerful and effective but not a lot of people have the time to practice as much or as intensely as I do, which is why people purchase ritual implements and talismans in the first place. I would always encourage someone to make their own however, it is perfectly acceptable to perform these things for someone who is not as far down the path as we are.
