I'd like some suggestions on Cloud storage providers. I haven't needed one till recently to put some supporting files on for inclusion into documents I want to write. For example we can't include illustrative graphics or sound files in documents we publish here on WF for example. So... the obvious answer is to link those to someplace in the cloud! That said, what are some suggestions for providers for small data like this, I don't really need GB or TB of space either.

N.B.
I'm aware that lots of people here put GB's of books et al, on "Mega", is that a good option for something this small where I likely wouldn't exceed several hundred MB in the foreseeable future?

Here is a tutorial about how to post images on WF:

The file hosting issue is still being discussed among forum staff and various DMCA-proof options are being considered. Mega used to be cool because it allowed you up to 20 GB of storage space where other hosters only offered 10 GB for free and because it didn't care much about copyrights - not anymore, it seems: I lost +16 GB when my first account was cancelled due to copyright complaints and 19 GB (about half of it reuploads for the terminated first account) during the recent second cancellation. I have nearly all files on my harddisk and backed up on a thumbdrive as well anyway so no permanent harm done to me personally but it's still annoying as hell.

Sometimes a book can be found via the Russian yandex search engine where google won't display any valid hits due to copyright consideratiosn but I checked out yandex cloud and it doesn't offer a free plan, although up to 50 GB for $1.38/month isn't bad...

I've contributed +32 GB to the forum so far which encompasses my entire occult book collection but in recent months, the challenge has been to identify books worth posting at all and not where to find them, thanks to Anna's and welib.org.

Not an easy answer. Mega is a good choice, i guess. There are webs that store pictures specificaly for hotlinking on php forums, just feed google with something like "php forum online picture storage" or something similar. Just keep in mind that they might want to use puctures to train ai or something. They must pay for it somehow. Also nothing lasts forever so the posted pictures just like entire service can disappear anytime.

Excellent info! I too believe in a Lot of storage redundancy, internal, external with extra HD's and high quality Flash Drives! I gathered from another one of your posts that you'd had those accounts terminated, few things suck More than screwing with a Lot Of Work! It would Piss Me Off Too! I'm one of those who can see all you've contributed in Blood, Sweat and Tears! On the Upshot it Builds Character!;)

I plan on posting a tutorial in the "near future" that accesses an off site Graphic. This works well, and was proof tested in one of my journals, so I know it will work pretty seamlessly, though it's hosted on a "document type host". This will adapt a "chunk" from the journal and flesh it out in the tutorial. Basically for younger, newer members who may not have the benefit of more formal exposure to this stuff. I'll put it up hopefully sometime later this week. Just a single Graphic, no Audio, real simple! I have a real concern that our "next generation" gets exposed to Important principles, et al, Often, what I see is that they Don't. I'm thinking about it over :coffee: now.

Maybe you should not rely on single account when uploading risky stuff. Too new books are guarded a lot by publishers because they try to earn money by selling them. If you want to risk uploading books younger than let's say... 10 years from being published, might be better to upload them separately, those are most likely to be demanded to be taken down.

…or not to upload such new stuff at all.

I think that key principle is how freely you can download the book. So if the book is protected by password (which can be seen on download page), it will be harder to take down such shared file legally.

Even better if it is somewhere else.

Indeed. I saw forums, which had such system in place. They had password (to files) listed somewhere on the forum, it required a bit of time to find, but it wasn't hard to find if you really were looking for it. Also I liked the "Like" system by SkullTraill - it doesn't even let you see any download link unless you are registered on the forum (and made additonal step of "liking" the post).

Real good point that hadn't been discussed yet! But just like the Grateful Dead would say "If you've got a Warrant I guess you're gonna come in!

terabyte of downloaded information (1024 gigabytes) per account for free. However, there are also bad reviews. Overall rating 3. I don't know about books. I've never had problems with photos and documents. It should also be mentioned that this storage is a subsidiary of Baidu Cloud.

Yep, this forum is visible to the Public, some things are better left to us insider's with perhaps a more "vested" interest?

@Morell,

Do you personally have any occasion to use one of these providers? I think it should be de facto understood if you give a provider access to your material it will be gone through with a "fine toothed comb" Sho' Nuff! ;)

Yeah, Sometimes I share a screen on local public social network. where it would take needless time for me to store a picture right there, so sometimes I post a worthless stuff like some of not valuable screenshots.
I use these:
