The standard book is probably Frater U.D.'s (Ralph Tegtmeier) "Practical Sigil Magic". The method was originally invented by Austin Osman Spare in the interwar years, forgotten and then reintroduced in Peter J. Carroll's seminal "Liber Null & Psychonaut". There is any number of books on sigil magic in the Library, and of course almost every book on chaos magic describes sigil magic as well. I like Lars Helvete's and Laura Tempest Zakroff's books because they encourage readers to experiment with a wider range of visual effects beyond the mere recombination of letters.

It's important to rember that we are talking chaos magic here, so apart from the basic principle (creating an abstract symbol for a specific desire and then 'charging' it, thereby imprinting it onto the subconscious/catapulting it into the mystic ether or whatever), you're free to be as creative as you want to be, there is no hallowed time-honoured procedure that must be followed without any deviation whatsoever.

If you plan to use sigil magic in practice some day, I'd like to urge you to play around with pencil & paper even now once you've understood the basic idea because it may take you some time to create impressive sigils unless you're artistically gifted. It's great fun, too!

(I don't remember the volume but it would have been the S's and was in the context of a bio of Spare) which is where I first encountered it.
