In many spells different kinds of metals are used what is the significance of metals in spells and rituals.

I would say it isnt very significant but if you are interested ; a simple start is their attribution to planetary energies . Their 'significance' is that they are said to 'carry' a specific energy , such as other things do ; a color , a form, a smell ( incense ) etc.

I think their major significance is the different metals' volatility or stability . If you are making a potion, oil, etc . you might not want the substance to interact with any metal in preparation or storage . In some cases metal of any type should not be used .

There is also an art ( probably lost nowadays * ) in blending them ; Sun and Moon : gold and silver = 'electrum' or blending all 7 planetary metals = 'magicum electrum ' . An example of that are certain bells or cymbals that were produced by the Tibetans , one used to be able to tell the number of metals from the number of symbols on the cymbal ;

* although nowadays they are probably made from a mix of brass and 'white metal ' ( a blend of melted down engine parts )

Metals might be more significant in ( non 'standard' ) healing ( where I have used silver and gold ) .... but one does not need a spell or ritual to do that .

Yes. Colloidal silver is a well known preparation * Silver discourages infections and pathogens ( hence silver milk jugs, etc ) , it is even openly recognized nowadays ;

Gold is good 'all round' , get a 'sty' on your eye lid ? Just lightly rub a gold ring on it . Colloidal gold is better than silver , but the electrodes * are expensive ... and in my case, not needed . I have been in a river that is naturally gold infused like that . I was told to observe my urine after three days of drinking that water after I set up camp there . It went a bright golden color .... not like a dark yellow color ( as in say, taking vitamin pills ) but a healthy glowing bright color , and general health and mood greatly improved .

* one needs to be careful , it can be toxic if the particles are too big . That is easy to detect as the solution will have a grey tinge to it , it should be bright clear and 'sparkly ' - the issue is, it gets effected by sunlight , so most marketed solutions are in a colored bottle , making it hard to see the solution ( I bought some tipped it in a glass, and it did not look good ! ) . You can get a kit to make colloidal silver ; a small battery powered electric 'pulser' and some pure silver electrodes ( the pulser can also be used to tape the electrodes either side of one's main wrist arteries and adjust the current so as to electrify the bloodstream after taking the silver solution )

Bismuth is a metal I had a lot of fun with for a while , it would seem insignificant , except for the fact that it is just one single atomic number away from lead ( rather 'dangerous ' ) yet it is inert ..... Americans consume vast amounts of bismuth ; around 700 m tons a year , mostly in medications for indigestion ! But it has a much much more significant use than that ! ( IMO ) - the trick is to melt it ( it has a very low melting point ) and try to keep it as close as possible to , , but under its solidification point , for as along as you can . Then 'seed' the middle of the mass , 'grow' and carefully extract the 'crystal' -

As stated above there are some medical properties that certain metals have. Though most of it is pseudoscience at best, I don't recommend colloidal silver unless your goal is to turn blue or get heavy metal poisoning.

From an esoteric standpoint it really depends on your practice. Types of metals may be very important in an alchemic ideology or some forms of hermeticism. In these practices metals have specific properties or planetary associations that can encourage spells to work in certain ways.

In my practice as a chaos magician they mean virtually nothing unless the specific paradigm I'm utilizing requires that they do, and even if that's the case these can often be overlooked when stealing bits and pieces of other systems.

I just remember another one ; copper ( attributed to Venus ) for arthritis . No scientific 'proof' ... but hey ! many times science has failed in health treatment and I used 'magic / herbalism' to success, when they failed ( and they might cry 'placebo' ... but then, why didnt THEIR treatment create said 'placebo effects ' , hmmmmm ? )

I stand by my comments on colloidal silver ... and note what I clearly defined about toxicity * ... or course the 'scientist' doctors never agreed , just became mystified why my past chronic Hep C condition was not effecting my overall health .... ' strange fascinating ... curious ' they would say . Then when I outlined my treatment they would get angry and non accepting .

* generally, working with metals the risk of toxicity is greater ... consider what the ancients used to do with Mercury / mercury ! In my 'alchemical work ' , it was mostly to do with agriculture and food production so we focused, not on metals, but on 'rocks' ( minerals ) and plan and animal products ... there are some exceptions of course : this 'rock' looks pretty .... good enough to pick it up and inspect it ;
