'Gingi walla widtha you guys ! Somehow this forum popped up for me and I thought I would focus a bit more on the magical . My other on-line forum interests have been in ( and interacting in ) history and anthropology forums and Daoist / Buddhist forum - both occasionally touch upon occult subjects , but I registered here to focus more on that .

Self info ; I am old .... done 70 laps of the Sun so far . I live near the east coast of Oz in 'Gondwanaland '

I have never focused on one single career , so have been left free to peruse many .

Interests are ; martial arts ( done various for most of my life ) gardening, nature , life appreciation and enjoyment .

I started off being interested in 'occult' as a young teen when I first found an excellent occult section in my regional head library and went through it with gusto .

Later I studied anthropology , comparative religion , divinity (and soil science ) at Sydney University . Cultural Anthropology and comparative religion have been my main focus since ( although I did work in soil science for a while - biodynamics - ie ' earth alchemy ' - making and marketing remedial preparations and fertilizers for Biodynamic Agriculture Australia ) . My main interest is in cultural anthropology .

I call myself a ' neo-hermeticist ' in that I am interested in looking at certain aspects in hermetics that have application and comparison to things in the modern 'scientific world ' .

I also have experience in being inside the 'western mystery tradition' as an initiate , both at 'the grass roots' * and in a national administrative role .

* In that field I have been able to join in with others ( eg . PPPA - the Pan pacific pagan Alliance , a great mix of people ) and enjoy , constructing, organizing and performing some rather large and potent rituals ( eg. spring equinox ritual ... festival events , etc . )

I am pretty much retired now though - in 'The Hermit' stage .

I would not call myself a 'wizard ' ... but hey , I been called a lot worse ! :)

I also believe one can never stop learning , so I hope to be able to do some of that here . as well as offer my viewpoint, observations and perhaps some research .

Also I note this site seems to have a lot of new members joining ? It seems 'on the up ' . That seems a good indication to me . For a few years there I was thinking these subjects were becoming lost , but recently I notice a few of the 'young ones' seem to have a much better interest and approach .

Welcome, new here too! I'm a couple laps behind ya, not taking a wizard label either, despite wanting to. Same with Magician, you're old enough to know Uriah Heep, you know what I mean. I go by Shaman now, it's the closest label that fits, even if I always gotta say I'm not THAT kind of Shaman...

Indeed , I rarely practice 'Western style ritual magick ' nowadays . .. sometimes I revisit old 'daily practice' . But when I mostly retired from that I spent more time getting into the indigenous stuff here ... so (maybe ) now more 'shamanic' * as I have an old friend that has since become an elder, teacher and sacred site guardian .

* is a borrowed term that seems to include a lot nowadays and is considered ' cultural misappropriation ' by the 'originals '

- if interested , try this :

Thanks for the linky! Ya, I get the origin, and it is the world's oldest faith system, you'd think we'd have a universal term, but there ya go.

It's a true term in operation, I have a Familiar (yes, another term that is oh-so-close-but-not-quite-there) and I will be a Healer eventually.

I've heard a saying. One does not seek the Path of the Shaman, the Path seeks you. Lucky ones have a mentor, a master. Unlucky ones like me... Ego Death.

Just for a rare glimpse here is my teacher in such matters . This is from the older ; 'let's make a youtube about it ! ' days . This guy is 'for real ' ( meaning he used to ( he still might , we go in and out of contact a lot as we rely on 'coincidence' ;) for our meetings - not modern media ) train and initiate young men of his 'tribe' . Real deal , in that , after training they go off naked and survive in the wilderness ( sub-tropical rain forest , part of the Gondwana National Parks ) for 3 months; which means starting from scratch - everything ; making your tools and weapons , hunting and gathering , etc . I have met some of them ... fine young men they are !

As time goes on I will post some of the papers I have written , just need to see where they fit into the right forums .
Are there any other videos on the Shaman Creative channel you recommend?

(not so long ago, I'd just download them all, it's only 24 vids, but YT is getting awful, AI ruined, it takes jumping thru hoops to even see one vid.)

Not really any I would recommend , I can show some related to the one above . They are both from Bundjalung Country . The first is one of the 'Nephs' ( terms Uncle and Nephew can apply to a few types of relationship as well as the commonly understood 'blood-relations' ) ; Luke ... Luke is a gem !

( note his tools ; a natural river stone and a piece of wood )

Song - ( a special one , the river seen here is special to me * , the clip also features 'Uncle Pop Harry' ( the Bundjalung Senior Man ) singing .... and a surprise at the end ;) )

* of course , the things shown publicly are very 'outer stuff' . Sections of this river out of shot are amazing and include a fairly traditional 'modern' main camp , an up river section with a very traditional camp ( not for public access - it was empty when I came upon it { I had access permission } but there was a ha;f made stone hafted axe and evidence of working it inside . Further up a paradise of braided streams, pools river sand , little waterfalls , shrubs 'bonsai' like from floods in amazing shapes and at that time flowering and many small honey eater birds flitting about :) . Further up ; sacred site , initiation sites ..... very restricted access .

I have done a little research , which I plan to post at some stage . It traces some threads that seem to link a particular 'current' , 'way' , philosophy , teaching... an 'influence' that went from Ice Age refugia ( perhaps in Places like Lake Biakal - an amazingly fascinating place ) , traveled into Central Asia in the Bronze Age and then 'split' and was carried by Zarathustra as a reformation of 'Aryan religions' to the west and eventually to Persia , forming Zoroastrianism ( which in turn influenced Judaism , which in turn influenced Christianity > Islam > Baha'i - ie.'Levantine religions ' .

To the east , via Tonpa Shenrab Miwoche ( 'The Central Asia Buddha ) through the Pamirs ( home of 'Shamballa ' ) into TIbet to reform Bon .

To the south west to create Vedanta ( aside from the indigenous elements in it as well ) .

Thanks! Embedded YT vids I can actually see! YT keeps telling me to log in to prove I am not a bot, but... it won't let me log in, tells me my IP is blocked. I'm seriously looking for a substitute to YT, the AI has ruined it. All in the name of fighting ad blockers.
