I'm currently going through recovery from a bad messy breakup, and in the midst of my grief I started reading "The Kybalion" (just finished), and "Corpus Hermeticum"( current read. Now I'm not so sad anymore, so that's cool. I want to study Gnosticism next but I fear that might make me even sadder than I already am. My ultimate goal in life is to learn how to invoke a hungry infernal, and feed the next cheater bf to it in exchange for the secrets of chyrsopoeia. I'm sure I'll get there, one grimoire at a time.

I'm really sorry you're going through that... breakups like that can leave deep echoes.

Since you mentioned wanting to explore Gnosticism, let me share one of my favorite pieces of writing from that tradition. It was discovered in Egypt in 1945 as part of what's now called The Nag Hammadi Library, dating back to around the 2nd or 3rd century CE.

It's called "The Thunder, Perfect Mind."

This is a good and quite exhaustive scholarly analysis of the poem:

Thank you so much for this !!!! The dude was a muggle anyways so it wasn't that much of a loss in the end. I'm also giving him way too much credit by saying he would even be worth the secrets of chyrsopoeia. 😭 Actually, feeding that man to a daimon would probably be the first case of infernal cruelty.

Not gonna hold you, but reading through Corpus Hermeticum is like trying to finish a plate of plate of popeyes biscuits with nothing to drink. I'll finish it because I'm hungry, buts it's not easily digestible lol.

This poem is lovely !!! I'm definitely adding the Nag Hammadi Library to my list of late night rabbit hole ventures ! Thank you for your kindness shared on my journal !

I'm turning to my scholarly studies to circumvent the rage the dwells inside me ! thank you for this

"The first case of infernal cruelty" — that actually made me laugh!

I haven’t read Corpus Hermeticum myself, but I've heard it's dense. The way you described it reminded me of trying to get through Kant's Critique of Pure Reason... absolute slog, respect to anyone who finishes it. I read it once and that was enough for a lifetime.

And yeah, I get what you mean about staying busy to keep from spiraling into negativity--sometimes that's the only move that works.

Some lines from the beginning of the poem - they left out some of the gender-bending and more mind-boggling bits but it's a cool ad, all told:
