Robert Monroe's work is a great place to look if you're wanting a very thorough deep dive into psychonaut work. I wouldn't suggest his astral projection methods for beginners (achieving an OBE via meditation is extremely difficult to pull off without prior OBE experience), but he's published a ton of research and resources on the subject that are relatively easy to understand, and the tapes he made do a great job breaking down deep meditation techniques for anyone who might not be used to it yet.

For actual techniques, making a habit of doing "reality checks" throughout the day and practicing dream recall goes a long way for lucid dreaming, and is what's brought me the best luck with it. If you're wanting to get into the OBE side of psychonautics, I'd suggest looking into the wakeup-back-to-bed technique and starting there. There are a ton of different methods out there, but in the time I've spent in astral projection circles helping walk new people through the practice, that's noticeably been the method with the highest rate of success for first-timers.

I don't have any strong recommendations for chaos magic, since it's a bit all over the place by nature. It's mostly about carving out your own practice rather than sticking to one specific occult school. The best resources for it imo are just whatever occult books you like, so more information on your own goals and what kinds of magic you're interested in would help a lot with narrowing down suggestions.

thank you! I will definitely check out Monroes work. I have previous experience with OBE from just doing my normal meditation techniques, but both my OBE and astral projections have been chaotic to say the least. at one point I got stuck in a waking loop consistently waking up in my dream each time thinking I woke up for real before realizing it was a dream and waking up in the dream again. scary stuff. so, I hope by looking at his work I can help refine my craft.

Haha, yeah I know the loop. I've been having spontaneous OBEs for about eleven years and the successive false awakenings still happen, so the best tip I've got there is to just learn to go with the flow and let it play out however it does. Eventually it stops being scary or frustrating and just becomes "ah great, one of these days again". It should help with developing more control when you're aware of what's going on, though! Best of luck (y)
