Singing Rituals

What are your thoughts on singing the rituals? I currently do SBR from Damon Brand (Yohach, Kalach, Natzariel, Oziel) and a Kabbalistic LBRP facing East with Michael (blue) on the right, Gabriel (red) on the left, Oriel (yellow) in front, Raphael (green) behind, and the Holy Spirit/Shechina (white) above.

I have been using either an anointed wand or blade, but recently had the idea to use a bass/guitar, assign the notes to the angels, and sing the rituals. I feel as if the extra vibration, correspondence, and "storytelling"/drama may help. I'm curious to hear what you think or if you have practiced with music before.

I've read some books by the Gallery of Magick and have done some rituals involving singing, particularly with angels. I have reason to believe that singing enhances the practice in some way because you are not afraid to vocalize and put yourself into the moment, hence angelic tones like the ones sung in churches as they are uplifting.

I've never heard of using musical instruments in this practice before but I'm sure it could be effective if you put passion into it.

Melita Denning & Osborne Phillips associate the classical planets to certain notes and vowels in their Mysteria Magica series — specifically Magical Philosophy.
The sun = G, and the vowel I.
Mercury = Eb, and the vowel E.
Venus = F, and the vowel Ē.
Planetary Saturn = C, and the vowel Ō. Superman Saturn uses a long formula instead of the vowel however.
Mars = Ab, and the vowel O.
Jupiter = B, and the vowel U.
The moon = D, and the vowel A.
im sure cross-referencing correspondences with angels and planets (or sephiroth), you can come up with something using these )

I can easily tell you are a dope person. and you are right on track - whatever gets you 'in the mood' counts. a guitar might do wonders that no sacred wand can in the right hands!

as for myself, I usually do the SBR ritual silently in my head. but once, while in the middle of a (loud) singing practice, i realized its past sunset and time for recalling the angels. i recall the music was being played on a high volume and during the ritual i said the 4 angel names while harmonizing with the singer : ) it was fun and also i felt an emotional cleanse immediately after this particular banishing. which led to heightened confidence and better practice.

This is the most gorgeous practice I have ever come across. And really, this is how magick should always be done. It is pure craft; creative, embodied, real, personal, playful and devotional. And hell yes, you most certainly should use a guitar when you sing to the angels and not just because your guitar creates standing waves, and your voice creates interference patterns, and because you are basically creating a sonic temple in your space, but because your instincts are dead-on. Now me, I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket to save my life. I'd croak to the angels like a dying raven, my dog would bite me and the devils would cover their ears but the angels...yeah, they would still come. Why? Because, and if you have music in your soul you already know this, singing recruits the whole organism. It involves all of you. It does what vibrating names, visualizing and inflaming yourself with invocation try to approximate but usually never reach. You sing-you are magick. No Ikea by the numbers crap. Kudos.

Interesting. I'd want to know how they arrived at those notes and letters. I have a very analytical framework. Is there a book with these correspondences?

That's awesome! And yeah I might start singing their names and incorporate the lulav thrice waving aspect with my wand or knife too! Idk if I should be messing with correspondences too much like that but it seems minimal and creative enough to at least bring me into the right headspace.

"storytelling"/drama may help

Singing with storytelling, theatrics and personal correspondences has improved ceremonies by increasing the amount of syncretic thoughts that can be held during performance as part of a composition.

Liber Resh is a good example. Taking that written ritual as the basic core of a ceremony to be given context by its larger spirituality and fleshed out in relation to the genuine initiatory story of the adorer.
The composition reinforcing everything from the godform set at the beginning to the outtro. Throughout keeping connection and alignment to the natural universe to gain coherent spiritual momentum.

to vocally begin the ritual with different rhythms and tones.
Adding fine variations from something I read or dreamt about ancient Greek ritual singing that involved arpeggios, which was described the practice like a staircase to reach a spiritual state. The song and video for Synthetica by METRIC helped understanding and adapting that theory for myself.

A steady deep tribal beat, real or imagined, works well for me to hold tones for counts.

Divined personal changes sung to identify myself as adorer to hylozoic entities. Verses derived from the Stele of Revealing keeping the Ancient Egyptian connection with reincarnational context.
Instead of "I am Ankh-af-na-Khonsu..." "I am Ptolemy ..." or another...
