I recommend this method as an opening to a meditation, maybe even a ritual. It can be a ritualist part or it can be a folklore addition to your prayers. This is a direct excerpt from my dream incubation journal, one of the rituals that came to me during the incubation of the water element. Most of the inspiration is Agrippa's Occult Philosophy and the Chaldean Oracle for the letter Chi/Khi:
Definitely the main force or "teachings" that came to me was the four Rivers cardinal "ritual" if you would even call it that. I would describe it like the X/χ Chi/Khi Letter in greek. If I would describe it to a newbie it would go something like this:
Facing the East(Fire), say the following:
"I invoke Eurus, wind of the East. I welcome you and ask you to open the gates between heaven and the underworld, let Phlegethon and Pishon enter this space. I offer my respect and welcome Oriens and Michael. "
Turn clockwise/right to the West (Air)
"I invoke Zephyrus, wind of the West. I welcome you and ask you to open the gates between heaven and the underworld, let Cocytus and Gihon enter this space. I offer my respect and welcome Paymon and Raphael."
Turn counterclockwise/left to the North (Water)
"I invoke Boreas, wind of the North. I welcome you and ask you to open the gates between heaven and the underworld, let Styx and Hiddekel enter this space. I offer my respect and welcome Egyn and Gabriel."
Turn clockwise/right to the South (Earth)
"I invoke Notus, wind of the South. I welcome you and ask you to open the gates between heaven and the underworld, let Acheron and Euphrates enter this space. I offer my respect and welcome Amaymon and Uriel."
Then you can sit or stand while meditating in the space you created.
According to Plato's Timaeus, the demiurge/craftsman slices the entire world into the shape of an X and bends the ends back in a circle, attaching each end to the other.
