Hello, just thought I'd actually add some much needed value to this forum given there seems to be a criminal lack of pragmatic advice.

So putting my money where my mouth is, i just caught this video in my YouTube feed and I think it perfectly summarizes the tension in valuing independence and how deeply internalized societal expectation can really be.

In short, and this will be a bitter pill to swallow, is you have to kind of have to be willing to be a bit of a pain in the ass if you ever want to truly gain self-sovereignty in a world that operates on systems of conformity and peer pressure.

If the system cant put you in a neat marketable box, you are treated as a war criminal... SO BE IT! FREEDOM IS EVERYTHING!

i'm driving at how to navigate the tension between being assertive and being a selfish jerk. its actually a hard needle to thread for alot of people including myself.

I see. Yeah, just gotta find the balance between "don't be an ass-hole" and "don't be a push-over." Be assertive with taste - know the right times and places where it's appropriate. Just be genuinely good to people and most of the time you'll find you don't have to be assertive or selfish in most scenarios. That doesn't mean let them walk all over you.

hi there, nice topic. made me think of a discussion a had at home where i was surprised im being saved from having no will while i choose this myself, like it and have a free will. im not really a talker so i guess silence means for some you have no will or say. anyways i decided to have conversations on reddit with some karen like persons and its true i cant handle that. it makes me freak out and go silent. not offended, btw.

so give me your worst, so i can see if i have gained some calluses. and make it funny.
