The 72 Names of God, how to start practicing.

Hello I want to start practicing with the 72 names of God, what do I need?

Do I need to know the Hebrew alphabet and their respective angels?

Any book that will guide me on this topic will be appreciated, I am currently reading "Book of Sacred Names" by Jacobus G Swart and is very interesting, I want to work with the names of God for protection, thank you.

There are probably at least 72 books in the Library and maybe just as many posts about this, but..
These three lettered names (+ a two lettered suffix) aren't real words - as opposed to pretty much every other Hebrew Angel's name. What you need is the appropriate Psalm of the Angel (although these appear odd in most cases)

For you, considering everything you have posted, maybe the 72nd Angel would be useful.
Most sources give the name as Mumiah and the Psalm 114:7 in the Vulgate (116:7 in the Hebrew)
I call him Mevamiah and use Psalm 5:7 (in the Hebrew) because that Psalm is used against evil spirits and actually has the three letters of the name MVM in order.

there are a few different ways to go about this depending on your level of intent / commitment and background.
the 72 names of god appear first in coded form in Exodus as i am sure you are aware.
Hence, perhaps the most powerful approach would be obtained via Hebrew magic / mysticism - i can recommend Jacbous Swart and 'The Book of Sacred Names'


the 72 names of god are also referenced quite heavily in the western esoteric tradition. they were taught (maybe still are?) in the golden dawn, via the form of invoking angels around you in a circle. A very quick version of this practice can be found in Damien Echols 'angels and archangels' under his 'celestial lotus' practice.

like anything, it's up to you to explore and find what you can work with. you should however absolutely be able to pronounce these names from memory, without any book or guide - which is where Jacobus Swart comes in useful.

for me, the celestial lotus had effects similar to what the abramelin ritual is said to offer.

the 72 names of god is a highly powerful formula, which will have profound results if used correctly. this means making significant changes in your life, going through some period of ritual purity, cleaning yourself up etc.

I need help against attacks like spiritual attacks and I am being told by another magician that doing a prayer to the 72 angels by author Gilberto Strapazon from his book "Protection Magick and Spiritual Empowerment with the 72 Angels of God" that this practice will help me, also is not only spiritual attack is people around me attacking me psychicly.

I am using Gilberto Strapazon book "Protection Magick and Spiritual Empowerment with the 72 Angels of God" plus I am trying to protect agains a spiritual attack, get it removed, other magician is guiding me, but I still have lots of questions wether I need also learn the Hebrew letters, I also have a book with meditations on each of the 72 Angels but to be honest I dont know a lot on this topic, I work basic Greek Qabbalah and Ive never seen things like exorcisms on the books I work with.

Yes Solomonic magic is famous for not working.
Wicca and Voodoo are reported to be more effective.

The number 72 appears often and linked to the 12.
72 is 3*24, with 24 being twice 12.

72 names of God. 72 angels and 72 Demons in Ars Goetica.
I think the Greeks divided the sky into 72 sections of 5deg each, where the Babylonians divided into 12 horoscopes with 30deg each. (that's off the top of my head. Don't quote me on it)
Each section, or name, or facet would represent one part of the whole God!
Solomon was not powerful but he was wise - being tasked with building God's temple led him to the forces that hold order in the Universe.
72 names, 1 tetragrammaton, only the magician's curiosity can be considered important ...

Mantra and the 'names of god' are really low-level practices. This idea that one can robotically repeat things over and over and achieve liberated immortality is quite laughable. Things don't work like that.

What people experience are the collectivist energies of those who practiced such things before, as well as the egregores associated with them. But people feel any sort of energy and make wild leaps.

Real development is a very hands-on affair and not generic formulas handed down by restrictive religious traditions that haven't achieved much in 1000s of years.

Mantras help you concentrate on the self.

I suggested the Vishnu Sahasranama because he asked for spiritual protection, not as a concentration practice.
