I recently read 72 Angels of Magick by Damon Brand. In the Master Ritual, the practitioner is instructed to phonetically sound out several Hebrew words and phrases. I was curious whether anyone knows the direct Hebrew translations, or the original Hebrew forms, of the following:

NAH-KAH EE-AH-OH-EH

VAH-HAH-DEH-REH-CHAH
TZ-LAH
REH-CHAB
AL-DEH-BAR-EH-MET
VAY-AHN-VAH-TZAY-DECK
VAY-TORE-AY-CHAR NAW-RAH-AUGHT
YEH-ME-NAY-CHAH

AH-RAH-REE-TAH

I'd be interested in both the literal translations and any additional context regarding their meaning or source within Jewish mysticism or ceremonial magic traditions.

These are definitely transliterations of Hebrew. I'm not sure what the "NAH-KAH" of the first line is, but "EE-AH-OH-EH" is another way to pronounce YHVH, or "YOD HAY VAV HAY", the Tetragrammaton. It's use to invoke God's power and authority, so not unusual for angel magick.

I do recognize the next seven lines from the Sefer Tehilim ( Book of Psalms ). It's the fourth verse of Psalm 45, but the lines have been broken up a bit; "Vahadharkha Tselach Rekhabh 'Al-debhar 'Emeth Ve'anvah Tsedheq Vethorekha Nora'oth Yemiynekha."

"And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things."

I don't know the context of the Master Ritual, but the whole of Psalm 45 is essentially a Hebrew royal wedding song. Its usually prayed to bless a new marriage, or bring peace to one experiencing troubles. I can't tell you Brand's reasoning for the inclusion of Verse 4 specifically. All I can guess is that the qualities of the king are to be bestowed on the magician ( majesty, truth, meekness or more at humility, and righteousness.

AH-RAH-REE-TAH is ARARITA, which is a Qabalistic name of god and a Hebrew acronym called a "

". It's shorthand for "Echad Rosh Echadotho Rosh Ichudo Temurato Echad" ( One is Thy Beginning; One is Thy Individuality; Thy Permutation is One. ). Both The Golden Dawn and Thelema a la Crowley use it in their hexagram rituals to invoke or banish macrocosmic energies. Each of the seven letters is attributed to one of the seven astrological planets. Here it's likely being spoken to call those planetary energies in their most balanced state.

Thankyou. That has clarified it a lot for me. Its nice to have an understanding of what one is saying as opposed to just trusting.
