Activation of Saturn pentacles

I want to activate the second and third planetary pentacle of Saturn on Saturday.

The second one is activated with Psalm 72.8. It's pretty clear to me on how to go about that one.

The third one has no specific instruction, it has the names of the Angels Omeliel, Anachiel, Arauchiah and Anazachia on it.

Would you call the Archangel Tzaphkiel that is associated with Saturn and just write a calling with the names of the aforementioned to activate it?
I read that it was sometimes custom to invoke Angels for the activation of pentacles, not sure if that makes sense here.

Would you stay very strict (matching Saturn in a way) to the traditional activation that are available in the greater key of Solomon,
or would you take the freedom to, for example, work with an Archangel ritual that works with multiple Archangels matching a goal want to achieve, where the specific pentacles are one step on the way? I could very well just do that following the activation, I'm kind of used to enforce some things with Angels further.

I'm aware of the timing etc, just had this question about specifics.

If someone is new to a particular tech then my general advice is to stay true to the source material initially.

*In the case of the 3rd, activate it by calling to the entities on the pentacle.

That being said, I have had very good results by incorporating pentacles into the middle of another ritual. Ex: opening with DSIC to call on a Saturn entity you have worked with before to ask for assistance and to strengthen the working before preceding into the consecration and activation of one of the pentacles of Saturn.

**Positive feedback loops in magic can be used to great effect.

Personally speaking I would do a Saturn invocation using the Greater Hexagram invocation of Saturn, using the archangel Tzaphkiel at the quarters, then make a custom address/invocation to the lesser angels in the middle of the ritual.

I’m a big believer in starting now with what you have (your finger for a wand, new paper, clean clothes, etc…) is better than delaying the work.

thank you , i think its the simplest solution.
personally i like to do those basic invocations then in the middle i do the consecration with a personal energy or bodily fluid or offering
then that is a good space to do some meditation , scrying, connect to the force.
then banishing

A thing I would consider is that Saturn is currently Fallen in Aries, probably the worst position for them to be.

Unfortunately, Saturn won't move out of Aries for a couple of years, being the slowest Planet.
Personally, I would still do lesser things with Saturn, but not big workings like Pentacles. However, I understand that waiting two and a half years can be a little too much...

I practice the Heptameron so my way is to conjure the spirits of Saturn and ask them to enter the Pentacle and do the function it is made for.

Well, I would day that depends on the goals - as Saturn is usually the power that can teach one patience (to put it mildly),
it might even be a relief that Saturn is now acting through or is distorted by kind of it's opposite, the impulsive Aries.

I would rather say I'm happy about this constellation as it mixes the energies I try to balance in myself anyways to follow through with some one man projects - the discipline and order of Saturn paired with the Praxis and push of Aries.

At least that is how I take it. Still appreciate all contributions, you made me think about this a little deeper, thank you!

FWIW- there is now semi-common practice among modern occultists where you inscribe a pentacle that has the effect you want on one side of a talisman (be it paper or metal) and then one of those wheel pentacles with names of angels on the other side. You then call on the angels of the wheel pentacle and tell them to activate the pentacle on the other side, read the versicle and then tell the spirits what you want them to do in regards to the thing. You can also treat that other pentacle as a kind of spirit as well. You can also slam energy into pentacles, especially via breath.

I do all of the above and it worked for me.

Also, what members above suggested with calling on the Archangel of Saturn would work as well. Great posts.

As for timing- contrary to the popular notion, the pentacles are not "planetary" in the sense that planetary image talismans are. Planetary images are trying to capture a specific astrological moment. Pentacles are derived from Biblical passages and mystical characters of spirits, making the force that powers them above planetary influence in its origin. Though everything made in sublunar level has its own astrological natal timing, so it is an influence but not definitive one. Also when working with spirits you are much less subject to astrological influences. Planetary image magick of Ficino, that is a massive influence on today's conception of Renaissance astrological magick, is deliberately trying to avoid working with spirits because it was considered illicit magick in middle ages and Renaissance. Also, there are various manuscripts that list solomonic pentacles, as well as variations of pentacles themselves, that get shuffled around in terms of their supposed planet.
So, observing planetary day and planetary hour plus proper phase of the moon (waxing for benefic, waning for malefic) is enough. Anything more is a bonus.

Check out Sarah Mastros' Sorcery of Solomon book, though take her comments with a grain (or a bucket) of salt. I don't endorse a lot of what she says but she does give an overview of how a modern magickian can work these pentacles. Also look into BJ Swain's Luminarium for an alternative way of working a combo of hoodoo, pentacles, heptameron and Orphic hymns.
