Advice on working with planetary pentacles?

With the pentacles I always end up getting a little over stimulated as so many ideas come to mind on what pentacle to use for which outcome.

What are the best classic and maybe also the more in depth resources on the planetary pentacles?

How are you using them and would you also work with more than one to combine effects for certain goals?

Have you worked with the related entities that are sometimes named with each planetary pentacle?

When does it make more sense to work with the planetary powers "as a whole" instead of with the first, second and so forth pentacles?

I think the Kamea's or magic squares are a fitting aspect to combine these with?

Thank you for your insights!

I have really liked Sara L. Mastros' book "the sorcery of Solomon." She gives a lot of great information on what is actually on the pentacles, what they can be used for in modern context, and how to combine them with examples in her own practice. I have made a lot of the pentacles on paper, in wax, and some in metal. There are several schools of thought on how to go about consecrating the pentacles, where the power comes from, and what not, but I tended to try to combine a few of the practices. When constructing a pentacle, I would plan it out, if I were making say the 1st pentacle of Jupiter, I would have the book I am copying from at hand, find out if there are angel names or spirit names on the pentacle, god names, and what the perimeter of the pentacle says. I would then plan to make it at sunrise on thursday, since that is the hour and day of jupiter. You may want to first do a banishing ritual if it is in your practice, meditate, and get yourself into a magic state of mind. once in the hour and day of whatever planet, construct the pentacle, try to have your mind on either your purpose for constructing it, or on the god names or angel names, almost chanting it, or you can repeat the words on the versicle over and over. What I do next is do an invoking ritual of the hexagram associated with the planet, in this case jupiter, call forward tzadkiel, jophiel, and other jupitarian spirits and ask for them to bless and consecrate the pentacle to your purpose. This isn't really necessary, as some would say the magic is actually in the hebrew letters, and the symbols themselves being drawn at the right time, but I prefer to be thorough and bless it more with more of the planetary energy. One could also do a Solomonic style evocation to bring forth a jupitarian spirit to help bless the pentacle, or use Rufus opus's method in the seven spheres. I followed Sara Mastros' instructions on using the first pentacle of each planet to power up others by having it on the reverse side of another pentacle of the same type. Jupiter's 1st pentacle could be put of the reverse side of the 2nd pentacle to increase it's efficacy. Usually the first pentacle is a wheel of symbols surrounded by 4 spirits of the planet that may help see the work done. I have made many of these on card stock paper and put them in my wallet for things like wealth, or protection, or safe travel. This all still probably sounds like a lot, but I would recommend making one you like on the day and hour of its corresponding planet, maybe using colors attributed to the planet and see if you get results. You can then scale things up if you want more efficacy, or so experiment if some things will add to the power. Magic is largely experimentation with the methods, and if it works, then it works. I hope that was mildly helpful and not more confusing.

Thank you so much for this comprehensive answer, it answered most of my questions I think. If that was your first action in this forum you might have a glorious future here! 🧙‍♂️🧙‍♀️ Welcome! Btw wasn't Jupiter's hour the first hour of the day not the first after sunrise? Is how I memorized it a while ago.

Thank you! I greatly appreciate it. As far as I have read, the planetary hours typically begin at sunrise on the day. so rather than the first hour of jupiter being at 12 midnight on thursday, it would begin when ever the sun rose that day. Planetary hours are a bit of a pain to calculate, as the sunrise changes day to day. I often use a planetary hour calculator app, but the one I use doesn't have the best UI, but it still works despite it's clunkiness, I believe its just called "planetary hours." Best bet is to look up when sunrise is on the target day and to begin your working then. You can also do it on the other hours of jupiter that day, as there will be 4 hours attributed to jupiter throughout the course of the day and night. Some systems may calculate things differently, but in most of my reading and collection, they show this system for calculating planetary hours.

Haha great, even though I liked the idea to hike to that place in the woods around my corner that is dedicated to jupiter as a little form of sacrifice on my part, well then I'll do that with the first hour after sunrise - pagan principles in a way, just like the year beginning in spring and so on.

Yeah luckily there are a few old pages, usually I love the early internet UI pages, never obsolete nostalgia :)

Do you also have experience working with for example the olympic spirits?

Do you know of some practices that are on the tip of your tongue regarding the use of magical squares?
Or do you think this is more of a "creating resonance" thing that let's one enter the plane of the planets energies easier?

Thanks, have a nice time exploring the forum, with the search function you'll find all kinds of stuff, feel free to message us if you have any questions, that's what we are here for!

The olympic spirits are a topic I am interested in diving into, I recently bought David Rankine's Clavis Intelligentiarum and Clavis Spiritum, and am eager to read more, but they have always been unclear for me. I would sometimes invoke a bunch of planetary angels, and then I would add on the olympic spirit as well, but beyond that I have been at a loss. As for magical squares, I am also fairly unclear about how to properly use them, I know some of the sigils for spirits are taken from them, like the sigil for the intelligence and spirit of a planet, like demonstrated in Agrippa's 3 books of occult philosophy. I believe David Rankine has made corrections to these sigils in the two books mentioned above which is interesting. I think people often use them as sort of power up pentacles, or combine them with other planetary symbols onto a single talisman. Sometimes when making talismans people seem to put as put symbology associated with that spirit as possible, but I haven't made too much use of them in my own practice so far, but I would be interested in what you come across.
