I also thought about making a post dedicated to Ambient/Dark Ambient this week!
I hope you don't mind if I spam in here a little from time to time, as it's one of my favorite things.
Some tracks 'ov mine' may already be posted in the general Music section.
Great taste btw zamradiel! Trepaneringsritualen is one of my favorite artists.
One very simple one is still a go to for me, especially to focus with a face of stone:

The longer I listen to them and the T.o.P.Y circles and so on, the more I love them and I'm just beginning to grasp how wholeheartedly they all were living their magickal artist lifes. I grew beyond many fan-relationships I had while 'radicalizing my artistic taste', but Coil and figures like Gen never failed to impress me. It helps being a fellow psychonaut aswell
They shaped music as it is today - all modern music is produced with cut-ups.
Forever grateful for those prototypes to have wandered the mundane!

Exactly - you said it. Coil is one of those rare instances where art and magick merge completely.

As far as ambient music goes, videogame soundtracks are the best ones at that i think, bar none. Maybe because the greater ones really intensify the overall feeling they try to evoke to immerse in the experience with an strong atmosphere.
is a channel that produces Resident Evil Save Rooms inspired music. I found the soundtrack to be top notch atmospheric ambience. It does bring a strong cathedral feeling of it's own. I like it a lot.
There's also another similar channel, , that does Silent Hill inspired pieces in a similar vein. Really ominous, very dream like, pretty cool overall.
Sometimes i like to put either of those channels in the ambience when i study my material, which brings that deep, personal feeling of diving on my own consciousness, unraveling the core of my own mind. And also, it feels pretty cool

I have some Industrial albums in mind that have similar unnerving energy, could post endlessly, but it's maybe not really ambient anymore, more sonic torture, which I love.
Especially Power Electronics etc can be harrowing as hell. Dark Ambient also is in some cases heavier than the heaviest metal.
Maybe we can fork even further and start an Industrial thread, although the borders bleed into each other?
I guess straying to far from the path would not serve your idea of this post? You are the master of disaster here.
Is this still ambient or is it 'ethnic music inspired psychedelic sonic torture' ?
I guess dungeonsynth still counts in some cases, puts one in the swampy alchemist cavern snakeskin mushy mood
