Best sources for studying the Psalms?

I searched the forum and think there hasn't been a full discussion on this. I'd like to study the Psalms more in depth both for theological and magical purposes(please do not recommend "The Secret Power of the Psalms"). It's somewhat of a pain to wade through evangelical spiel to find more serious, academic commentaries. I'm primarily interested in Catholic, Orthodox and historical readings.

Thank you to anyone who responds.

Catholic, Orthodox and historical readings.
Academia.edu, this website has some research materials. You might find something over there
Check the section Religious Texts and Scriptures, The Book of Psalms. Maybe you can find something interesting?
I haven't checked this site much, some guy I know suggested it and said there's information about all kinds of monastic practices, theology too.
The search function shows 453 papers on psalms hmmm...some are in other languages.

Thank you for the suggestions everyone 😄

I don't know if the book you mention has the same info, but in the 6th and 7th book is an appendix with the ascribed purposes / effects of the Psalms.

Yes, Academia.edu is very helpful! So is a certain site with a crow logo 😶

Have you tried The Book of Magical Psalms by Jacobus G. Swart? We have all three volumes in the forum library, I believe. Quite detailled.
I'd seen it but wasn't sure how good or bad it was, I might pick it up in that case.

I don't know if this would be a useful recommendation for you, but I started studying the Psalms using a book by

I have tried Swart's psalms on several occasions and found them to be very effective. It is suggested that you read an initial text before doing any of them - in book 1 - book 3 has a long index of intentions you can use them for. He summarises christian 'Cabbala' and Jewish 'Kabbalah' uses. Also, in a different way, Ariel Gatoga has a number of youtubes on different psalms and their use. I also use the psalms in a divinatory way - just open the book and see whcih psalm you have opened it on - as per bibliomancy techniques. Theyre worth the effort.
