  1. Do NOT use this section to ask for book recommendations. Use: Book Discussion and Reviews
  2. Give as many details as possible, including accurate title, author, publisher, edition/volume, and if possible, add an image
  3. Make sure you search through this section and Book Shares BEFORE making a duplicate request
  4. If possible, post a link to a purchasable digital version of the book from a reputable online book retailer (amazon etc), someone may buy and share the book
  5. The request must reasonably be able to be fulfilled (don't ask for super rare books that are not digitized and obviously no one has access to them)
  6. While it is fine to upload books as replies to request threads, it is preferred, and rewarded to upload them in a correctly posted thread in Book Shares
  7. Every member is allowed to bump ONE request thread every 24h. It can be your request, or it can be someone else's, but you can bump ONCE per 24 hours.
  8. Unless the books are volumes of the same series (eg. Conjure Codex I - III) then please put each individual book in it's own thread
  9. This is an English language forum, and as such, only English language book requests will be allowed
  10. You may only request occult or magick related books

I just found a book requested on here in archive.com. Is that ok? It's an old books so probs out of copyright.
Just make sure it's the book actually requested and reply to the request with something like "Can be found on archive.org". Better still, get a mega.io account and upload it for all members to enjoy.

I have a few books that have been requested and declined as rare. I’d like to digitize them, is there a good method to make reasonably sized readable and searchable PDFs from a hard copy book?

I’m planning to use OCR to make it searchable. I got QuickScan for my phone, but my test doc which was only a few pages was huge. Any recommendations, or anyone that has acrobat pro who could crush that file size down.

Hey halafman,

Digitizing rare books properly (good quality + reasonable file size + searchable) is something we’re actively working on as part of the 666 Temple - Library of Babalon project.

We’re in the process of refining a scanning + OCR + post-processing pipeline, and we’re doing it openly so the methods and source files can be shared and improved over time.

You’re welcome to join us on it. We’re still experimenting and tightening things up, but if you’re interested in learning and contributing as we develop it, that would be great.

What kind of books are you looking at digitizing?

I have a few I bought because I couldn’t find a digital copy. Off the top of my head, frater Acher; Goetic atavisms and Olympic spirits. And a few niche Crowley/thelema such as The Progradior Correspondence and The Magical Record of Frater Progradior.

That’s actually wild timing — these are exactly the types of works we are focused on primarily.

We’re in the process of refining a scanning + OCR + post-processing pipeline right now, and we’d love to have you join us when the time is right (which should be very soon). We’re still tightening a few things up, but once we have a stable workflow we’re happy to share it and collaborate on these kinds of books.
