Can different magical systems work together?

Yes, sort of obviously. The central initiatory system of the A. A. educates you in all the different priesthoods that come out of "The Brotherhood", so by the end you aren't unfamiliar with almost any of them, and see how they all work together.

Yes, I think that's basically the underpinning of chaos magick. That each tradition has aspects that relate or affirm parts of the others, and that it is possible to pick and choose parts of each to believe in that you feel can work well together. In the Golden Dawn, there's even teachings relating Egyptian, Christian, Roman, Jewish (sephiroth), etc together. Sometimes they're contradictory, but often there are many similarities between systems that allow parts to be harvested and combined into your personal system. Whatever works for you.

Absolutely they can. Just look at the Greek Magical Papyri. There are spells that call on Greek, Egyptian, and Hebrew gods, spirits, and names all over in the PGM, often in the same ritual. The techniques therein are a synthesis of Greek, Egyptian, and Hebrew magical techniques.

For myself, I practice a lot of different kinds of magic some would say are incompatible with each other. I practice Solomonic magic, Graeco-Egyptian sorcery, witchcraft and folk magic, and others. I even blend techniques from all these sources into the same ritual. I've certainly seen results many times from this.

Essentially yes .... IF they are valid systems ... ie. based on life and nature ... as we are all human with a basic human psychology ; we are all born, live and die ( the first three degrees of initiation )

I have had the occasion to go through a series of valid western initiations . I also have an indigenous friend who is an elder and who also has gone through a series of valid initiations in their traditions . Many years ago, when we found out this about each other we had a long talk about it . of course, there are some things we could not discuss, but generally we were both amazed at how similar, in basics, our systems were ... although incredibly distantly removed from each other in time and culture .

Yep. It’s not necessarily the most effective strategy. Often the temptation to newer practitioners is to hop around chasing the next shiny thing. A string of half assed traditions/techs is obviously suboptimal but a well thought out practice, that you put real effort into, that pieces together a few different ones can be quite effective.

If you're just starting out you should really just commit to doing one path/tradition for a period of time (1 year minimum, ideally a few years). After that you can re-evaluate. I do think it is helpful to work in different traditions. A lot of learning happens from seeing the strange ways that things are the same and different. But to actually bring those traditions together in a good, you really need to understand them pretty intimately. Magical systems (at least the good ones) are kind of like car engines, although the individual parts could be found in other devices, they are brought together in particular ways in order to make the whole thing work. Just grabbing some bolts and some pistons and some gaskets and throwing them in a basket isn't going to make for a great path.

Yes, different magical systems can absolutely work together — and in my experience, they often work better when intelligently combined.

I actively blend multiple currents (Thelemic, Rosicrucian, Martinist, and others) and have gotten very good results doing so. The key isn't just grabbing random pieces and throwing them in a pot. It's understanding the underlying mechanics of each system well enough to see where they harmonize and where they don't.

A lot of the "you must stick to one tradition" attitude seems to come from a fear of diluting the work or losing something essential. I get that concern, but in practice I've found that respectful, informed synthesis can actually deepen the work rather than weaken it.

That said, there's real value in spending serious time inside one system first so you understand its internal logic before you start combining things. Pure eclecticism without depth usually produces shallow results.
