Do you remember a time when there seemed to be a "psychic fair" or as the irreverent called them "psychic circuses" popping up all the time?
Sure, "covid" clusterfucked everything in our lives to a greater or lesser extent, but I think they were in decline prior to that. At one time the nearest "Metro" area to us supported Four (4) thriving "magic, occult, esoteric" shops and all that they contributed to those things. Now it's down to Two, and online shopping seems to be killing them! Of course, if you know where to look there are also the slightly harder to find purely ethnic type hoodoo and similar dedicated shops and botanicas as well. We're Magicians and Sorcerers, et al, so those still play out. That said, it's difficult to find a "fair or circus" now anywhere these days.

How about Where You Live? Does anyone miss those venues? o_O

Oh yeah, the same principle seems to also be affecting the larger Conventions as well, it isn't as easy to "hobnob" with others now?
I don't think I''m alone thinking this is a "syndrome", am I? Over time I've enjoyed a lot of dynamic interchanges at these things! 🤘

We have none of these since the painter + allies wiped the map clean with our asses in ww2 i guess.
There should have been plenty in the wilhelminian and weimar times, big trend in europe i guess.
You would guess the end times would trigger more of that, but I guess the economics drive ppl towards-
well- the free to cheap and online resources - or into the hands of the rat catchers anyways.

I think some places will still exist like in paris and larger cities, but often times even these are semi forced to
mold their merchandise towards the mortals that end up there by chance (or spell).

We have a pathetic mix of very rare flower power crystal shops that have overpriced beginner books tailored towards
the occasional boomer etsy shop keeper that dropships pendants and diy's such with copper wires,
- or there is the the occasional real nepali that has one or two more advanced pieces of merchandise hidden in his shop.
But he's also struggling. Sadly also our regular far and in between antiquity book shops are not into the occult.

There are a few online shops though that have a great deal of stuff and are based in germany - but those are also rare and online only.

But we do not completely lack the pretty commercial but well made conference type things that happen from time to time -
most noteworthy the occulture in berlin. The rest is more of a hoping and guessing with slightly related events -
for example let's hope I'll meet some interesting people at this event for weird music with occult and metal undertones,
or meet someone serious on the traditional wave gotik treffen, the biggest gothic festival in the world that happens here yearly.
But that is like going to a medieval market in a castle and expecting a real mage still sitting in his dungeon.

Apart from that I think it's mostly loose private groups, institutionalized official orders, dark tourism and wandering around the well kept and less well kept ruins and forests. I think the UK and US, maybe to some extend places with a connected history like Prague have some more places.

If one wants to go for true academic research on old texts this is a great place to be, you can visit occult rare medieval book collections by appointment for example in some universities and alike. But the regular university libraries, apart from the ones traditionally leaning towards it like heidelberg where you can study basically the occult, there are very little resources in their normal libraries.

Apart from that some places draw people towards them that are "alternative" - like certain mountains and so on,
where the weirdos gather and share an old house to do their form of adult daycare field trip with incense and drums.

Maybe we need this war to wake the f up lol. (or go to sleep forever)

Have a good one!

Yeah, what I miss most is the dynamic in person interchanges that happen when the "recognition" occurs and you "know" there's a kindred spirit there! You can sense it online too, but not like IRL. These events haven't completely vanished here, but seem better planned when they do occur,
like it's not as easy to host them, so plan better and make it worthwhile. Quality vs. Quantity.
