I’ve spoken with several serious occultists and magicians who have told me that Lucifer cannot be summoned from the Americas because it isn’t his territory. According to their understanding, the Americas fall under the domain of Astaroth, while Beelzebuth is associated with Africa, and each of the major spirits has its own territory.

I understand that this may ultimately depend on the practitioner’s paradigm, tradition, or system of magic, but I’m curious to hear what others think about this.

Is there a particular tradition or historical source that supports the idea that these spirits have geographical territories that determine where they can be summoned? Or is this more of a modern interpretation found in certain schools of occult practice?

I’d be interested to hear other practitioners’ experiences and perspectives, especially from those who have worked with these spirits across different traditions.

I firmly believe it is a modern invention of some edgelord trying to spread their phallus of knowledge.
Honestly, I have not heard of this. The only exception being land spirits, which outright makes sense.

That's why I asked in the first place haha. Peterson mentions it in his translation of Grimorium Verum , and the older Clavicula Salomonis de Secretis has a similar division, though it names Elestor rather than Astaroth as the ruler of the Americas. So there's definitely some historical basis for the territorial idea. I just haven't found anything saying Lucifer can't actually be summoned from the Americas. Maybe I'm missing something, which is why I wanted to ask here.

The closest regional tale involved with spirit summoning I have read is the use of certain sigils may be calling on different spirits in a region than what is the originally intended spirit to call upon.
An example: Lucifer. Everyone likes the dropped V+A form of the common sigil, however the cloud designed version is what most people commonly ignore is the "older" and is the historical European version.

If the Grimoirium Verum and its derivatives are modern, yes.

In GV, the world is divided among the 3 superiors, and then each continent has one of 6 subordinates, and then each of those have a few inferiors.

There is no reason to think that the GV is the final word on how you can interact with spirits, but you are probably stuck with your continent's superior in terms of making a pact according to the GV. If you aren't planning to kill a goat with a knife, just forget the GV altogether, or at least realize that if you want to ignore one of the rules you might as well ignore them all.

Lucifer is invoked regularly all over the world by all sorts of people. The difference is that you are wanting to force Lucifer & Co. to do what you want whether they want to do it or not. That's why the GV has you do all the rest of the things. It's called a Blasting Rod for a reason. Blast them.
