Seeking Recommendation Good Resources on Hekate

Hi. I'm new to the forums. I've been going through Keeping Her Keys by Cyndi Brannen, and I like it, and I've also been reading Liminal Rites. I wanted to know of any other suggestions to help me deepen my practice with Hekate? Spells, rituals, etc. Thanks!

Some book recommendations for you to dig into:

The Hekatæon by Jack Grayle (a very good book for deepening practice),

Hekate Soteira_ A Study of Hekate's Roles in the Chaldean Oracles and Related Literature by Sarah Iles Johnston (good University level for historical info),

The Rotting Goddess - The Origin of the Witch in Classical Antiquity's Demonization of Fertility Religion by Jacob Rabinowitz (another good one for university level history on Hekate),

Witchcraft Medicine: Healing Arts, Shamanic Practices, and Forbidden Plants by Claudia Müller-Ebeling PhD. Christian Rätsch PhD. Wolf-Dieter Storl PhD. Translated by Annabel Lee (A brilliant book on historical herbal magic with a rather large emphasis on Hekate),

Hekate: Keys to the Crossroads~ Edited by Sorita d'Este (This one gives diverse experiences of practitioners who have worked with Hekate for many years and gives a good view of how she manifests for different people in different ways).

I know I only added one specifically for deepening practice, but all of them will add to it. The more you understand the history and how those who came before us worked with Hekate, the better you can understand your own connection to Her. I hope these recommendations help you out. You can find some of these books in the library section here. I'll add that Hekate- Liminal Rites is one of my favorite books on Hekate. I'm glad that you are starting out with good material. I'll also add that anything on Her by Sorita d'Este is worth picking up.

Circle for Hekate by Sorita d'Este is a wonderful compendium of information about Hekate's veneration in Antiquity. I'd definitely reccomend it.
Also, study Traditional Craft, as well. Hekate is the goddess of witches after all.

I strongly recommend you DO NOT sign up for Jason Miller's "Sorcery of Hekate", misspelt material with appalling grammar that would embarrass a kindergartener - as to how effective this course is? At least it didn't make things WORSE for me - yet I did NOT encounter ANY improvements.
My having wasted so much money & time on it all hopefully means nobody else will have to subject themselves to such utter trash.
One of the BEST books on Hekate is "Temple of Hekate" by Tara Sanchez, as well as books by Monte Plaisance.

I agree with the books suggested here. I also think learning more about Hekate's epithets can be an interesting way to understand her different aspects. Thea Deinos is pretty terrifying, but Kourotrophos can protect small children for example. One of the best resources was this

I quite like the epithet "Pandoteira", meaning "all giving" / "Bounteous" - good for abundance, prosperity, wealth etc, when I was a member of the Covenant of Hekate (just a bunch of drooling fawning oleaginous sycophantic Sorita D'Este guru groupies) - I thought I'd work towards becoming a "Torchbearer" within that organisation & establish a "Sanctuary of Hekate Pandoteira" - many of the "Torchbearers" / "Keybearers" in that group have a "Sanctuary" which is nothing more than a $10 Hekate statue off Aliexpress or Temu with a tealight in front of it, on a shelf in their kitchen or bedroom. Cyndi Brannen runs a membership group that I am VERY GLAD to no longer be part of . . . funny how she NO LONGER practices psychotherapy nor does she lecture ANYWHERE in psychology - why - imagine if she'd been "struck off" for ALLEGEDLY being MANIPULATIVE & NARCISSISTIC . . . imagine that . . . Jeff Cullen's book on Hekate "Liber Kthonia" is very aesthetically pleasing - I won't say anything more about it beyond that. Hekate the Crossroads Dark Goddess by Idlu Lili Regulus looks great. I thoroughly enjoyed Crossroads the Path of Hekate by Greg Crowfoot, & A Year of Hekate by Marcus Black.

Not just the spelling errors - the APPALLING grammar, & when the creator of the course produced voice recordings - his pronunciation of the Greek in the content was so bad my ears bled - all of this DESPITE spellcheck,

& THE WHOLE INTERNET to advise on CORRECT pronunciation of ALL LANGUAGES. The content of the course requires students to keep themselves quite busy engaged in imagining / visualising all manner of things - seemingly without purpose - these "exercises" appeared to have no benefit or make any discernible difference. The course creator markets his courses like a pushy snake oil salesman at some 19th Century travelling carnival side show - "in the next course - OH, THE SECRETS THAT WILL BE REVEALED!" . . . . quite . . . blah blah blah "behold the as yet unknown 4th face of Hekate!" - when the bailiffs are at the door, the fridge is empty, the bills aren't paid & continuously being subject to harassment & violence from neighbours / co-workers etc . . . "but it's OK, I've recited the supplication to The Graces / The Furies & their mantras / incantations . . ." which make NO sense EITHER historically or linguistically . . .

Epitaphs are written on gravestones. Epithets are names / titles ascribed to someone.

Glad to see that constructive feedback is so greatly appreciated, Heaven forbid that you would ever give anyone cause to doubt or question your credibility or attentiveness. Temple of Hekate by Tara Sanchez is great - almost makes all other books superfluous.

If you were to look back over some of my previous comments - I've made several recommendations. Good you never use your dyslexia as an excuse for anything - with the right kind of support, one of my former very dyslexic students went on to earn a PhD in Russian Literature - once she identified what her particular challenge was - she figured out what would suit her best to manage / navigate her condition so that it would never be a hindrance. It would be incredibly cheap & totally irresponsible me to use my disabilities as an excuse to be incompetent, inefficient or ineffective. Good that you don't do that. Keep winning.

I’m not sure how acknowledging that dyslexia is why I sometimes transpose similar words became “using my dyslexia as an excuse,” much less a discussion of incompetence, inefficiency or ineffectiveness. I made a word substitution, acknowledged it, and corrected it. That really was the entirety of the issue. Glad your PhD student did well; I have my MS in Physics and a BA in English. Yay!


I also never suggested you hadn’t made recommendations elsewhere. I was referring specifically to the correction of “epitaph” in that comment, which didn’t add anything to the discussion at hand. I’d much rather discuss Hekate and the sources being shared than continue turning a minor error into an assessment of my competence. Especially given that much of your own response wandered pretty far from the actual discussion. I corrected the word. I’d rather get back to the interesting part of this conversation about Hekate and the sources people are using.

I'm sorry. There are many books on Traditional Witchcraft; I was speaking of the practice in general, not a specific work on the subject.
Generally, which authors are viewed as good depends on which cultural background to Witchcraft you prefer. Kelden's work is often quoted as good,but there are others for one variant or another.
