Jumping in to say Greg and Dana Newkirk’s Hellier, a paranormal investigation documentary series, is free on YouTube now (links below)

I recommend it less as a ghost hunt and more as a tool to get people out of their heads. Its starts in 2012, Greg Newkirk got an email from a man in Hellier, Kentucky, claiming goblin-like creatures were terrorizing his family. The Newkirks eventually went to investigate. What starts as a cryptid case turns into something else entirely full of synchronicities, ritual, magical community recognized before the investigators did as an initiatory current.

The series is not really about the goblins.

Some time back, Greg said they figured out they were not actually paranormal investigators but magicians in training. I agree. They read the books, do the rituals, and follow the synchronicities, and get initiated whether they meant to or not.

Magicians in the community kept telling them in so many words, “You guys realize you’re doing an initiation, right?”.

That is why it i recommended it as occult viewing. It is a case study in where magical practice actually happens - not in clear, prefrflt swuared off hot takes, bit often ion this messy, synchronicity-driven, and half-accidental, liminal Daimonic Reality realm.

It also not a how-to manual, but it gives a great example of a certain magical disposition or "stance." .Say the words, wave the sticks or your arms, follow the threads, take the Weird seriously, but also without too much credulity.

Then notice when the map starts changing the territory.

For anyone stuck in purely intellectual or purely skeptical modes, Hellier is a super useful kick to the side of the head to get out and go experiment. Full season;s 1 and 2 below

Just finished episode one, season one. I'm hooked! I love the production, the storytelling, all of it so far. I'm definitely going to watch all of it now. It's very organic and feels respectful even, like they are treating everything they encounter and engage with in both a professional way, but an open-minded way as well. Like, they are not just hunting for "juicy content", even if that is part of it at first, that's not the main driving force as the narrative progresses. The main vibe I was getting was like you said, they feel called to investigate it, like it's a calling. I feel their excitement, it's how it feels whenever that kind of stuff happens to me too. It's almost validating in a way, to see that these really professional people went through basically the same process.

So I binge watched this show basically non-stop. Here's my thoughts on it after watching both seasons so far (can't wait for them to announce 3).

I agree with your take, and that's basically my take away too. "Initiation" is like, a way of life. It's a kind of openness where you have the courage not to be convinced of anything, including common sense, and thus you allow new things around you to start communicating with you because you have become more receptive to things you never were before. It can be scary, and since it's in our nature to seek safety, most people hide from this stuff or are even hostile to it, but these guys in this documentary force themselves to keep going. I think that's a really great vibe to have and to be around people with that vibe feels awesome. It felt really special to get to watch this and kind of vicariously experience what they were going through with my hyperactive imagination the whole time, thanks again.
