How do you organize the occult information you learn about?

I’m trying to make an easier reference for myself to put notes on things that I learn. What I’ve been doing is writing about the topic or book on a loose leaf piece of paper and adding it to a binder.

I recently started using Notion though, because that’s where I put my school notes too. I’m working on something like a dictionary for myself. Not every single word I come across, but key terms I want to be able to reference. That’s been really fun but I don’t know if it’s just a waste of my time.

I’ve also just wondered a lot about digital vs physical when it comes to something like this. I like that using a digital format would be more portable, especially if I download it so I have access even without internet. Being able to search for things is a bonus too. BUT I also like the act of writing things down vs typing them, so there are just a lot of pros and cons to each. I’d like to know what y'all prefer! : )

Do you approach taking notes on books/papers the same as you would something in college? What about other things you learn?

I honestly don't forget this kind of things. Day-to-day stuff has a half-life of about two hours but arcane lore seems to stick forever with basically no memorising involved. I do however like thinking partly on paper, so have a number of notebooks filled with random diagrams I've been told by multiple people I should try selling as modern art. The funny thing is that I use the same one for my job, my studies and the wizard stuff, and frankly the scribbles for those three aren't all that different.

I write feverishly into a random journal to ensure when I need to find something it’s almost certain to at least take the better part of the night.

This is where I am currently lol! There is a bit of joy in the hunt though. I’m glad I’m not the only one! : ) Thank you!

That’s so cool! I’m sure your diagrams are wonderful! That’s partially what I do too. I’m able to just think and figure out connections to other concepts/works without confusing myself too much haha : ) I’ve been trying to consolidate those into something more reference-able instead of a million arrows and doodles and blurbs. Thank you!

I organize everything using Obsidian, it's quite versatile and useful.
you can sync freely using the plugin "fit" too
I totally forgot about Obsidian!! This might be the move for me. Thank you! : ) I’ll experiment with it a little tonight.

I have one notebook that I keep for the purpose. It does mean that when I look back through it, I find a load of things I forgot that I'd written...

...but this is normal for the occult. The version of you that wrote it may not be the same person who is now reading it.
