I tried doing Damon Brand's Magickal Cashbook but failed

I failed again in making the magical cash book. I simply don't know how to write Hebrew letters—last time it was because I wrote the letters incorrectly, and this time I messed up applying the paint to the notebook and ended up with paint all over my hands. I always run into trouble in the most unexpected places; maybe I'm just not suited for this ritual. Finally, Hebrew letters are really so hard to write!

Two weeks ago, I lit a cedar incense stick for my household deity. That night, I dreamed of myself failing this spell, and of throwing the remnants of the failed ritual (the paint and paper) into the trash. I struggled for two weeks, even carefully choosing the Monday hour of the moon to perform it, but still couldn’t escape failure. I’m so frustrated.

It is helpful to practice writing the letters ahead of time. You can find websites for learning the Hebrew alphabet.

That's one which came up on a quick search. Try practicing many times in pencil on paper before committing to ink in your book. Even in your book, write the letters in pencil and correct mistakes. Then trace over the lines in ink with your pen.

As an aside, this is also a good way to copy and learn the sigils for angels and demons. It is not necessary to be perfect the first time. This kind of practice while thinking of its purpose can be considered part of your ritual.

I can feel your frustration. You are NOT the only one, I promise you that. Keep in mind, everyone has more failures than successes with magick, specifically starting out. Anyone who says differently is full of shit (fight me).

We dont always get it right the first time. Its okay to fuck it up. Just keep trying, no matter what, just keep going. This is the learning. Learn to laugh at yourself, it really is good medicine.

@KjEno186 nailed it with the practice and tracing. Relax, let the practice part be part of your practice (see what I did there?)

I will add that in my experience the spirits aren't expecting perfection. I mean how far does that logic go? If you are stressed out over the letters, why not stress out over the quality of your robe? Is it good enough for the station and rank of the spirit you are communing with? Is it an Etsy special, or a high quality garment fitting for the spirits presence? What about the candles? Are those Dollar Store tea lights?!!! Is that a fucking old pizza box by your nasty ass trash you didn't take out yet, and you expect a high ranking spirit to actually come around????!!! See how silly this can get if we let it?

Joe Schmukatelli has wild success with spirits in his shitty apartment in Deluth, Minnesota with garbage and cat piss on the floor and a futon mattress for a bed, and cheap tools, some home made, some from the Temu bargain bin. He succeeds more than a practitioner in a million dollar home with all the 'right high dollar gear' because he is authentic and his intent is in alignment with his working.

Magick is not plug and play, meaning that just because we scribble some Hebrew letters in a book, it doesn't automatically engage spirits. So many in magick treat it like its a prescription, or recipe. It is only a part of it. If it were just a recipe, then the power is on the recipe and everyone would be successful with it right? Right? I say wrong.

You care and thats why you are frustrated. So take that care and keep going. Use that care in your intent. That is where the magick lives. Dont force it, it will only get worse. Just let it flow with your intent.

Just be real. Authenticity matters way more than you may realize. I have had many encounters because I stay authentic with it. If I dont know, I just dont know. I am willing to learn, and I remain teachable. I have never once had a spirit (angel, demon, deity) tell me I needed to be perfect. Never once.

Take what helps, burn the rest.

To be honest I tried that one too and did not get results either. I have had better results with Jupiter and Mercury planetary workings so far.
