I never cared for the industrial that’s dancy and upbeat that was oh-so-popular in the 90’s (like Front 242) that much, but always preferred the old school experimental phreak out industrial of the 70’s that had more in common with the radiophonic workshop and pioneering tape experimenters. My absolute favourite is Paul Kelday, a long lost voice in the DIY industrial underground. He passed away a few years ago but had been making cassettes of his stuff since as far back as 1974. Most of his tapes are extremely hard to find these days and fetch exorbitant prices. I had never heard anything like his music before and there’s a huge aura of mystery and enigma to his work.
