This is a huge rabbit hole and, relatively unknown, a significant source of magickal power. It can feel like plugging into a transformer. Sometimes you need all that power, but most of the time you do not. I'm not exactly sure how to locate them by feel or vibe, but there are resources that have them mapped out quite well. If i remember Spirit Science on Youtube has an episode about them.
One of the key aspects of Ley Lines is where they intersect and form Nodes. Many of these are compromised with institutional structures deliberately built on them—think the Vatican or Washington D.C. It’s a complete rabbit hole.

The main point is that there are energetic grids throughout reality. Magick uses energy. Ley Lines are literally roaring rivers of energy in our field.
Because it is a roaring river, you will rarely need to be right on top of them. Being in the geographical area is sufficient. It kind of reminds me of Sedona, where everyone rushes to meditate on top of a vortex. Why? it's ok. You're in Sedona- thats enough.

There's an amazing rabbit hole waiting for you to follow on this.

When I was a teenager, I subscribed to a magazine called Stonehenge Viewpoint, which specialised on this subject. There have been researchers who delve well into it. I've forgotten some of the names now, as it's over 50 years ago, but they won't be hard to find. Alfred Watkins and Paul Mitchell are two of the main ones to look for. If you stick with them, you can negotiate your way past the new agey claptrap modern books that just repeat the same information or make up silliness.

I highly recommend a book called Earth Magic by Francis Hitching. I still have a copy of this one and recently acquired a Gaussmeter because of it. Why is explained in the book.

Here's the good part: You can very likely find this book through your local library, at least through interlibrary loan.

In the meantime, if you check their catalogue with search terms like 'ley lines' and 'earth energies', there might well be a wealth of information at your fingertips. Look for the authors mentioned above. These people did serious study.

A lot of great info has been given already on finding these places of power, so I'll offer an animist view as well for consideration. Not everyone has a leyline in their backyard, but magic flows everywhere; it's just a question of if you can rouse it to your aid. I find what's important to the mundane world becomes important to the metaphysical as well. Any place unusual, important, or distinct usually carries some workable magical signature. I'm thinking of hoodoo practitioners using dirt from court houses and jails to empower workings. Tales of jinns possessing uninhabited homes. Eye-sore public art instillation that draw to them the attention and power of every passer-by.

The earliest places of power were found by those just walking around. A walking meditation through your community could provide valuable insight: where does energy gather in your area? Not just magical energy. Where do people gather? Where is money spent? What areas stand out from the rest of the community? Those are workable seeds of intense power if you don't happen to live within walking distance of Stonehenge.

The downside of finding your own spirits/energies is that you most likely won't have a tradition to rely on to tell you how to work with those specific energies. If you like discovery and forging your own path, it could be an attractive option. Otherwise, you could work with Elemental spirits of the lands. It's easier to visually tell if a place is abundant with a particular energy (water energy at a rushing river, wind at the peak of a blustery cliff, etc.). There are truly infinite manuals on elemental magic old and new, so pick any and start flinging the rites at those places if you'd prefer having an example to follow.

I would specifically recommend Elemental Spirits by Jaq D. Hawkins. Very much on the practical side without the flowery commercial filler too many occult books have these days.

I would also add Walking with Elemental Spirits: How to Work with Elemental Spirits and Get Consistent Results by Taylor Ellwood.

It is an essential and highly important aspect of indigenous culture here . It is a remnant of the way it used to work (as now a lot of things are built over or developed with disregard to these things .

It starts with the land you are born out of . A special spot that you are connected to and draw life and power out of . Then there are levels of totems you would have and these two have their special power spots ( * I will give an example below ) that are often that species' special 'increase site ' . There are other levels of sacred sites as well , too numerous to mention them all here . One type is like a 'gateway' or 'portal' that connects to other similar places in a 'jump' ( as we imagine future space travel 'wormholes' ) , or they might associate with the magnetic field and/or underground mineral deposits or seams .

Some are beneficial and some - far from it ! Some have been blessed or scarred by previous good or bad occurrences there . One example of this is Rottnest Island off Perth - a holiday resort where Perthites go to shit faced for alcoholic holidays - the resort there is the converted old Aboriginal prison 'concentration camp , I didnt know this and slept in a room there ! UGH . I didnt realise until I saw the had decorated the place with pictures of 'historical mementos' of its past .... WTF is THAT picture on the wall for !! ??? Then I realised it was an old photo of the courtyard outside the window !

Then I found out the camp ground was their graveyard and when I stayed there in a tent , sleeping on the ground, I was sleeping on top of them . This was greatly disturbing to me on a deep level and hard to get back into balance .

Then I found a good site ; 'Hangover Bay ' whitefellah calls it , but the indigenous have used it it as a healing after sickness and injury or mourning site , recognising the healing powers of this site . I can attest to it , it helped clear the murk from my time at Rottnest Is . Its the only beach I have been to where waves were travelling in 4 directions ; from the sea , a backwash going back out and in from the left and right .

Another power center is the nearby 'Pinnacles ' WOW ... what a place to walk through or be still and feel the energy - especially at dawn and early morning when no one else is about :

* Palka Karrinya - sacred site , increase site , power center Western Australia .

Following-Warburton-s-1873-.jpg

This central feature amidst a gorge of other features , rock art , etc ; 'shard' stands upright , its geological layering now in a vertical position and 90 degrees to that of the walls of the gorge . Ainslee Roberts , a great Australian artist seems to have had his 'epiphany ' there ; his life was in somewhat of a 'funk' and someone took him there to 'snap him out of it ' ... they actually slept the night in there !

Ainslie was never the same again ... and the resultant art , trying to capture the spirits of the land he had now been opened to is worth examining ..... Palkakarinya - 'own dreaming ' ;

some other 'visions' relating to scared sites ;

However , traditional indigenous art often ONLY shows the power sites and the lines connected to them ...

and the lines cross the country from one side to another and people would walk them . In earlier times sites were well known , respected . marked and used in ceremony

Aboriginal-ceremonial-ground-with-sand-paintings.jpg

(site with guardian - a grueling constant job ! Especially in the hot sun with no shade for hours on end ... I know I was called upon to do it a bit , but mostly I was a 'helper ' ; bringing food, and water , running 'errands ' etc . )

in some places , they are still 'marked' today ;
