What do you know about magic that renews itself automatically?​

In the world of magic, there are many ways to cast spells, as anyone with even a basic understanding of the rules knows. However, most practitioners are aware that most spells—the most common ones—expire after a certain period, such as a lunar or solar cycle, estimated at 28 days for the lunar cycle and 90 days for the solar cycle. There is also a different kind of magic—such as long-lasting curses that renew themselves automatically, so the caster does not need to recast the spell. This type is well-known in the East, but does it have a counterpart in the West?

In my experience, if you want to set up a perpetual spell, you need to also build in the energy source. an example, when casting for a ward, build in that the spell renews at a particular time, or with a particular action- my favorite is using the kinetic energy from the opening of the front door adds a little energy and renews the ward.

However, you still need to do maintenance on these things, confirm that the energy is still doing the action,etc etc. Make sure you are doing your due diligence to ensure that things are working properly.

There are not many spells that you really want to continue into perpetuity. I can't imagine casting a spell for a new job and then continually getting new jobs. That seems a little crazy. BUT you can build it to renew by particular type "until done".
Not sure of Western examples of long lasting curses. Cursed objects can exist, but those still likely only last until cleansed or until the energy runs out. I am not saying it is impossible, but I think that you'd end up draining your own reserves trying to set something like that up, and it would eventually malfunction.

Sure. Any good talisman, amulet, or ritual object doesn't require "re-charge".

There are two types of renewable magic. One type relies on recharging through a specific vaporization process, such as when someone places an atlasm inside a green river reed. They then encase it in clay, and every week during the time of fire—when its power is at its peak—they place it in the fire so the heat reaches it, thereby increasing and sustaining the flame of love in the heart of the desired person; or they dip it periodically in a river flowing eastward so that the afflicted person bleeds once more? There are also practices based on astrology, which are renewed whenever the star passes through its correct astrological position… etc. This is what I meant—does it have any parallels in Western magical thought?
