Camus wrote that one must imagine Sisyphus happy. There is something fine and noble in that image of the damned monarch unbowed, rolling his boulder uphill in vain again and again...

His punctilious kid brother, Sidneyphus, bespectacled and pudgy, cursing the gods and excoriating the four winds for disturbing the grains of sand in his sandbox and just when he got them perfectly in order? Rather less fine and nothing noble. No, nothing noble at all.

A parable for the forum...

Haha! I needed to read that this morning. I just let my browsing fingers lead me here… I’ve actually been dwelling on the image of Sisyphus a lot recently, specifically in relation to Camus’ Absurdism. It’s a powerful idea, one I’m trying to incorporate into my life.

The image that keeps recurring to me is a serious, black and white illustration of the man mid-toil, with an obnoxious bright yellow laughing emoji plastered over his face. Hail Eris, indeed.
