I have been practicing magick for some years now and my opinion about correspondances have changed....

I used to look for lists to compose my magick work but i found it very counterproductive.

Right now, i work with just one question in mind : "which elements reminds me of the goal?"

Let's take an example : i want to protect my home. Instead of going to Sandra Kynes's book, i will close my eyes and think "what does a secured home feel like TO ME?"

I have a scent of marsmallow, fireplace, berenstein bears, being relaxed, wood, red curtains, yellow flowers....

I may choose to place a bowl with a red knot, some ashes from my fireplace. I may take a visual from a real bear (or a Berenstein Bear one, it's similar in my head, but the Berenstein ones are more humanized) i will place the yellow flowers around the candle. I will place lavender oil on my candle cause it relax me. While performing the ritual, i may eat marsmallow.

Then i will create an energy ball, placing all the feelings invoked in my head, thinking of satefy etc.

Once the ritual is over. I might place everything in a jar...

So what do all those elements are good for? Well just helping me getting in the safe home zone.

If i felt a direct threat, maybe i will have envision my home around thorns. I would smell cayenne pepper, see swords, dragons.... So i would have choose to place all those elements in my magick.

Would i throw out my correspondance book? Well not really, in those situation....

1) i try to connect to a specific spirit. The correspondances would help me to vibe with it.

2) i want to perform magick that is linked to a specific group (the Golden Dawn) or a tradition. In that case, using correspondances that belongs to a group are needy.

What do you think?

Sounds like you're tapping into your intuition to do things based on your personal path instead of just following what someone else wrote in a book. Going by the book isn't always best, and in many cases is rigid and ultimately harmful to your path, but keeping the book for inspiration and reference isn't a bad thing either.

I think most of magick books teach you a system but most of them fail to explain what happens behind the curtain.

I don't believe you tap into an egregore when you want to use one pink/green candle cause millions of other people do the same to represent Venus.

If you need a venusian work but yellow feels the best color for that (cause it triggers in you the happiness of love) how can a damn green candle be more powerful if it just vibe with nature for you? ☺️
