Peter J. Carroll has passed away

Just heard that Peter J. Carroll has sadly passed away. From his publisher:

Peter J Carroll (1953-2026)
The Wizard has gone. With great sadness, we have to inform all that the celebrated occultural author, teacher, and innovator Peter J Carroll passed away unexpectedly in the early hours of Wednesday 22nd April 2026. He was a star whose books and ideas changed the lives of millions. He was instrumental in the birth of Chaos Magick, one the most significant new magical/philosophical streams of thought of our times. He is survived by a wife and two daughters. Pete will be cremated in a simple private ceremony for close friends and family. He leaves a great legacy which will be the subject of a longer eulogy and memorial in due course. An online memorial page will be available shortly

What a tragedy! Insane that I only just read Liber Null & Psychonaut for the first time a few months ago. I'd always planned to get around to it, but something finally spurred me to read it. Maybe the collective unconscious was trying to tell me something.

A sad day for Chaotes around the world. Alongside Sherwin, Carroll's distillation of Spare's ideas and concepts gave us the wonderful Liber Null/Pyschonaut. It's been over 20 years since I picked up my first copy! While my path has shifted quite a lot since then, I still consider Chaos Magick foundational to my practice. Rest in Peace, Stokastikos.

I will admit I was never a fan of the work that I read at the time by him, but I can't deny its influence on modern occultism. Perhaps I will take this opportunity to reacquaint myself with him. May he rest in power.

Wow and he was a legend in his field and will be sorely missed. Have two of his books and don't regret buying them for even a second. May he rest in peace.

Awww, that's sad to hear. He wrote some truly good material that moved the occult forward towards new age.

It was a shock to learn of Peter's passing away. Apparently he died on 22nd April but I only saw anything about this on 25th April. I have been a lifelong fan of his work.

The passing of a figure like Peter leaves a void that resonates in a very personal way. He wasn't just a theorist; he was a provocateur who provided the tools for so many to reclaim the reins of their own reality.
For those who walk the paths of postmodern magic, he represented that rare intersection of a sharp intellect and uninhibited practice. His ability to demystify the occult—transforming it into something functional and psychological—changed the very grammar of how we understand ritual and will today.
It is a tragic loss, undoubtedly, but the kind of influence he exerted tends to become an 'egregore' of its own. His legacy lives not only in his books, but in every sigil cast and every paradigm shattered by those he inspired.
May his journey now be as vast as the concepts he helped popularize...
