I would describe myself as someone who has historically been extremely sensitive to other people's energy, and also able to be manipulated quite easily. I'm more aware of it now, but I would feel better if I knew of some self-defensive energy manipulation tactics that only focus on your own energy, keeping it grounded while repelling others? I'm very much a beginner in all of this, so I would appreciate if anyone could give me some pointers/terms/things to read into.

I found out about visualizing your energy as sort of like, the shutter of a camera or a fidget spinner. Spin it inwards, shrinks your energy. Spin it outwards, projects it. That's about all I know.

Appreciations in advance :)

I got a lot from the book Vampire's way to self defense, which works with draining negative energy and transmuting it into your own.
There is a lot of shielding techniques as well.
Also take a look at any banishing ritual. Can be quite effective for managing your own energy field.

A couple quick thoughts. What framework are you working from, or interested in? Witchcraft, ceremonial magick, chaos magick, demonolatry, folk practice, energy work, etc.?

I ask because the framework will shape the methods that make sense for you. Grounding, shielding, warding, banishing, calling on spirits/deities, affirming personal sovereignty, visualization, breathwork, etc. can all overlap, but they do not always come from the same assumptions according to the current you are working from and said beliefs.

I would also separate two things here: everyday energetic sensitivity around people, and actual defensive work against other practitioners or hostile spirits. Those are not the same problem, and it helps not to treat them as if they require the same response. This is important.

For everyday sensitivity, I’d probably start with grounding, centering, basic shielding, and learning how your own energy feels when you are calm and stable. Once you know your own baseline, it becomes easier to tell what is actually yours and what may be coming from outside influence.
