Protection Spells

Do protection spells need regular repetition?
Sorry if this is a stupid newbie question, but protection of myself and family is my main interest.

I think regular repetition can’t hurt , but don’t be obsessive over it

It depends on what you are doing. Most of them require repetition. It doesn't hurt to repeat it. Some of my protection spells I do daily (magic circle ritual), others monthly. I have wards set up that only need refreshed if they break. If you feel you need to repeat it then go with that. As you become more sensitive to energy you will become aware of when something needs a re-up.
