Hi all, after reading this, I find myself interested in more on the topic of the HGA especially practical advice.
I am aware the book does go over this, but still given that it aims at giving multiple perspectives much of the information is condensed (which is good for the purpose of the book). I would like to read more on different methods, different perspective on the subject, and just get generally reading recommendations.
Would prefer modern English since my literacy level may not be where it should be for some of the more "classical"/"historical" texts.
I would also love to hear more about why you would recommend this or that option for a relatively new (at least new to this kind of practice although the idea is discussed in many of the books I have read about more 'material result'-based/ "low-magick").
I feel like I have reached a point where most of the things I apply myself too, through magical and mundane work just end-up happening and now I am more in need of like personal guidance and "connection to the divine" than ever before because I fixed/ know that I can fix or deal with most of the basic needs issues in my life.
Basically climbed up Maslow's pyramid of needs thanks to magical practices and mundane efforts, both necessary if you ask me, and now I'm feeling a bit more concerned/lost at what I should actually do with myself and my "newfound powers" (mostly attention span, focus, and a triple dose of "lucky coincidences").
Thank you all for your help and support

I love Holy Daimon by Frater Acher. It was the first real occult book I ever bought and it went WAY over my head. That said, it is a brilliant account of how he acquired his Holy Daimon from start to finish. The new edition has some extra material that I found quite valuable. He makes it very clear throughout the book that there is no “one right way” to acquire an HGA which I found very refreshing.
I reread the book both before and after the new edition came out and found that I had made my way to the same results by following a very different path.

I like this one:

Finish reading it recently, very interesting indeed, I like the approach and the protocols, some things are very close to things I was already doing at it felt like I was already engaged in the process in some ways. I would also strongly recommend to others.
Even though for other subjects I tend to not really "vibe" with some of the writing of the author, I feel there is more maturity in this one and a kind of detachment, it feels less like a "THIS BOOK IS YOUR ULTIMATE SOLUTION TO....".
There still a lot of self-plug and it feel very business optimized.
But the core content is indeed very clear, interesting, and based on years of experience. I especially resonated with his take regarding Crowley's process.
Thanks again for the recommendation, it's exactly the kind of thing I was looking for.

Very interesting to read your experience.
When I first read about HGA several time in different books and articles a few years ago I was both completely misunderstanding the idea behind it and had strong bias and objections regarding the methods mentioned. Now I think I am more open as to thing that can work for people in different situations as well as more open to try new things for myself.
Some may view this openness to try and judge by results as an issue, I remember several quite serious authors that I actually really like and respect mentioning the importance of choosing a tradition and accepting the fact that something that evolved other centuries through the practice of hundred, thousands, or even hundred of thousands of people probably has more viability than whatever we can try to DIY ourselves.
But at the same time at this point I still feel compelled to experiment.
I will try to find this book, it seems interesting and kind of aligned with what Damon Brand says in Magickal Destiny regarding the "no right way to do it". Which is my current personal opinion.
I think there is actually a lot of very advanced information that is included in super mainstream publications that easily go over the head of beginners. Even after years of diligent reading and some thinking I barely come to the beginning of an understanding of some of the massive and core concepts like the idea of an HGA.
Thanks for your recommendation, I will try to find the book.

I love Holy Daimon by Frater Acher
I started quiet some books at once that all are important to me and "my plan of work for the coming time", but this one wandered to the top of the list. As far as I know they build the Holy Daimon trilogy with his 2 other works that followed, The black abbot and Holy heretics. This kind of messed with my initial plan of reading and working through other things - like Peter Grey's Lucifer Princeps and Lucifer Praxis, as well as the working the True Grimoire/Grimorium Verum also from Scarlet Imprint.

What I really like about these works is that they work through history and the things that matter to better organize the approach for practical work in different systems with a proper foundation, with enough info to decide to work fully outside the abrahamic traditions, or to incorporate it.

As I wanted to add working more with planetary powers to my pantheon anyways it made sense for me to work through the trilogy, as these build on one another, and Holy Heretics is supposed to be a great book on working with planetary magick with a solid historically correct mythology n sheet.

In my case it was a bit like a synchronicity as I began reading a great self-development book named Arete by Brian Johnson (no, not this one) that spans 1008 pages, it deals with the greek concept of Arete, meaning to 'show up your best self' or full realization of ones potential that, matching the Holy Daimon' is connected to the principle of "Eudaimonia" which is the condition of "good spiritedness" - I would pair that with the personal connection to ones Daimon or HGA. So it fit's to read and work through the trilogy and read the 1008 page book in parallel.

So I feel like weirdly being in that messy synchronicity again, like predetermined - As I literally began to read both on the same day & one is the spiritual part of awakening ones "higher self or full potential", and the Arete book deals with the worldly aspects and the principles of ancient Greece that lead to the development of the hero - like in ancient greece where one had to work through the chthonic lower aspects of the self to be worthy to enter the uranian temples, after fasting and celibacy - as a "worthy Hero".

For me that was enough to make it feel round and full like the bosom of a mother goddess.

I like this one:

Nice that you mention that one, if I'm not mistaken that was one of the few books of the gallery i didn't have.

I just wanted to add- so far I do not know if Arete is truly as great as the voices in the beginning make it seem & they mentioned the principle of "Eudaimonos", but the heroes journey and becoming worthy for the uranian god's was something I added from the top of my head. I didn't expect it to be this long, I hope it makes sense to read it besides the trilogy though!

Adding to the books on greek culture and understanding their mindset I wanted to mention Steven Pressfield too, his books are either motivational books or fiction meets history stories that seem to capture the spirit from these times so well that they are on recommended reading lists for students in oxford beginning to study the greek classics to immerse themselves into the spirit & for example the fiction book called Gates of Fire that is recomended in the Marine Corps reading list. Have not read them yet, came to them by reading The War of Art by Pressfield, that is a motivational book that also mentioned his relationship to the Muses - but not in a deep mythological sense, it is a fairly free style written motivational book that focuses on showing up daily to attract the Muses so to speak. Writing this I realize that it left a impression on my thinking 🎃
