I know I am new on this forum, but this ain't my first rodeo. I am having deja vu reading the above, but that's what happens.
One thought I would like to share is that when it was mentioned higher up the thread that "mental illness and the occult don't mix", I first nodded solemnly but then shrugged that the two almost always walk hand in hand. This in spite of the critical, condescending and dismissive attitudes handed down to us since the dawn of the so called "Age of Reason", a lot of our famous predecessors, not to mention the unknowns, from which much of our occult philosophies found transmission or are derived, could be considered by modern standards of psychology and good conduct to be batshit crazy. I have lists and lists.

I think the moral of the story overall, begging the pardon of those vague avenging forces that threaten seekers from page #1, is this: When did telling anyone they shouldn't be doing something for their own good ever stop them from doing it?

But back to the Shem, I think it is crucial to understanding the background myth. A nameless God leading hosts of slaves to a land of freedom, away from vengeful oppression of a stubborn tyrant. This story itself conceals myriad powers in the text from which names are derived that can potentially lead to some form of liberation.
I'll leave the rest to the last action scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

All the advice we could give to OP here amounts to a hill of beans compared to what they could get from the source of the Shem, and their story.

Honestly, I think mental illness would be more likely without this crucial understanding as, how will OP be able to tell if he is talking to a Shem angel and not something else?

But I agree with the basic vibe of your point, "People are going to do what they are going to do."

Well, I think invocation is a safer route than evocation personally. Or certainly more advanced than I, I haven't done a formal evocation without assistance.
So for me, invocation would be the route...and a growing up period. Be pure in thought. Clean and organize your feeling, at least in stages. Upper mirroring the lower and all that.
I do like your idea on inviting them to pray as well.
It can be made into a ritual such as preliminary clearing, adorations to Lord of the Universe, LBRP, Middle Pillar, LBRP, adoration.

This idea can be extended to angels of healing, Angels of education, Angels of guidance etc. Shem Angels have a lot to teach.

In my humble experience it is well possible to carry out OPs operation without any special ritual. Especially with Shems. Indeed there is a high possibility that it already worked. They are there, guarding him from the first minute he formulated the need and the idea.

I see no reason why they shouldn't. In fact this is how it works.
