I was wondering you guys percieve the "like button" that was first introduced by facebook and the mass follower accounts on "X."

My personal use of it is a mix of either acknowledging, agreeing, or appreciating a point someone makes — and if its against my viewpoint and it has strong substance to it, i appreciate this much more than someone just agreeing with me.

How i see its effect on social media is that i see it spawns a false sense of entitlement. Like "my opinion or statement matters more since i got more likes." Personally i see this as detrimental for society, especially with the new systems on social media bumping up the most liked comment for everyone to see. A statement everyone agrees with in my view does not change anything with the person reading it. I see it as giving the reader the thought that "i was right."

About the mass follower thing specifically on the "X" platform (formerily twitter) — i see this having the same effect as the bumped up comment with likes. I see it as "my comments are more important than yours." In reality this ends up being the case for that person with the mass following even though its a illusion that their comments have more substance than ours. I feel like this feature gives too much power in society to people who most likely should not. Of course that is a generalized statement, but when it comes to politics this is extremely powerful.

I want this to be focused on the aspect of how this is effecting our psychology and if wether or not you see these things as good or bad.
