Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone with Voodoo or Hoodoo experience could help me out, I can't really find a specific forum for Hoodoo or Voodoo online that actually works except for the subreddit, but it's apparently hard to post there at the moment. I hope this is the right sub forum for this thread.

I'm taking a look at Brujo Negro's Voodoo Sorcery Grimoire, and looking at the divination section about throwing the bones, he mentions that the dice used for it should be annointed with Van Van oil, which is at least somewhat easy to get a hold of. However, he also mentions using a psychic oil such as Tiger oil or Five Circles or Holy Spirit oil to rub on the temples and third eye come divination time, and I can't find anything about either one online. Can someone that knows the practice help me out? Is there another more common oil which can be used? Thank you all.

Brujo Negro, like a lot of people at that time, used recipes from Malcom Mills' 'Potion Book. ' ( And which was stolen by Herman Slater, renamed, and published as his 'Magickal Formulary').

I've heard that Mills was a researcher like Hyatt and traveled around the American South talking to rootworkers and collecting recipes.

For a broader discussion of the Mills school see Pat Kirven Sawyer's 'Ancient Wisdom: The Master Grimoire. And the 'IGOS Basic Sorcery and Witchcraft Course'.

In the early 2000's there was a sort of low-level but peevish Hoodoo war between the Mills School and the Cat Yronwode School. Silliness, I say. Br. Moloch and Cat used to go at each other. Learn both, and more.

FY, Powers can be made into oils by adding them to olive or Jojoba oil. Cursing formulas are often added to mineral oil.

Holy Spirit Powder

-------------------
White
Lily of the Valley
Lemon
Silver Glitter

Used only for dressing candles and the
altar. Sprinkle liberally. Attracts good
spirit forces. Brings out clairvoyant
powders.

Holy Oil
---------------
Olive Oil base
Lily
Rose
Cross in bottle

A special oil used only for blessing candles
before they are used in a Voodoo ritual.
Very attracting.

Tiger Perfume Oil
--------------------------
Yellow
Wintergreen
Gardenia
Rose
Peppermint
Cinnamon
Bay

Awakens the psychic and clairvoyant
powers of a person during Voodoo
ceremonies. Particularly effective when
used as a bath just before retiring.

Five Circles
----------------
White Plate
Brown Bamba wood base

1) Make a circle on plate with Neroli oil
(Orange Blossom); rub bamba wood base
on circle to remove oil.
2) Make circle with Sweet Basil, rub, etc.
3) Make circle with Lemon Verbena oil,
rub, etc.
4) Make circle with Myrtle oil, rub, etc.
5) Make circle with Narcissus oil, rub, etc.
Helps foresee the future. Anoint the
forehead and bedroom. An extremely
psychic formula. Use in tiny amounts.

Hoodoo is an entirely separate tradition from voodoo. Voodoo is an independent religion whereas hoodoo is more like a folk magic practiced by African American Christians (mainly protestants), which has elements of native american and African lore but is Christian at its core. Hoodoo has more in common with the powwow/ braucherei tradition imported by the Pennsylvania Dutch, and in fact a few of the German grimoires translated by Pennsylvania Dutch publishers became popular with hoodoo practitioners.

Yep, yep. We are talking Hoodoo / Brujeria/ sorcery here. And nobody is really a Voudisant, or practicing Vodou, without initiation into a Vodou house. As long as that is kept in mind, no harm no foul.

In Haitian Kreyol, the word for Magic is spelled 'majig'. (Pronounced "Mah-jee") And it is pretty much identical to Mexican Brujeria, with some cultural variations - and a spirit roster with much overlap, but also many differences. For instance, Anima Sola in Mexican Brujeria is really not the same Anima Sola found in Haitian magic (nee sorcery. ) What a Haitian means by "magic" bears very little resemblance to what most Anglo inner-power / energy magicians mean by the same word.

Thanks, this was super helpful. I have the Malcom Mills book but hadn't thought to check for some reason.
