Is this something that absolutely has to be done for full effectiveness or can it be bypassed and worked around? Sometimes we don't always have the luxury of waiting for "the right time". However with some spirts they will not come through at all if you don't. Is their a happy middle ground here?

I posting this in the witchcraft/folk magick section since that is closest to what I do on a regular basis but I use elements of ceremonial style magick in what I do.

It's important, but you can do a couple things..
Invoke archangels to manifest
Put a planetary seal under the candle
Use that planets powers on it's day.
If you can't do it on their day, then you need to use the hour.

Is this really a frequent issue? Decanic hours are three chronological hours long.
Surely a working can be planned prior and done in that span?

If you are doing things related to planetary spirits, I'd observe at least the planetary hours and days. (For bigger workings, again related to planetary matters, I'd wait for correct elections. But sometimes even just the right planetary phase is enough. Sometimes not).

Also, if a longer work is required (lasting more than one planetary hour), the important thing is to start during the planetary hour.

In my own experience, it's cumulative. There's always caveats, like the moon not being in the right mansion, but generally speaking, any operation you perform on the planetary day and planetary hour of the specific planet you wish to work with should be enough, unless as the poster above mentioned already, you are doing something that requires a lot of energy. If that's the case, then waiting for the right fixed star or lunar mansion may become more important for your working to succeed.

In order to have the luxury of time or to transcend it, you must have previously established a connection with the spirits of the planet, its servants, the inhabitants of its orbit, or the inhabitants of its realm on Earth, or through the use of daily rituals. There is another method, which is to invoke lunar time; here, we must distinguish between practices based on time, and in this case, do not attempt them outside their designated time, because it is like calling a disconnected cell phone number. There are also works and talismans created through a specific location; if you spend years in a different place, you will only be able to access them with great difficulty and immense effort. This is why you may find that certain works are very effective in some places but less so in others, and there are also factors related to the zodiac signs.
As for the lunar houses, here they are considered a form of natural magic, and they are the fastest of all the planets as a standard for determining time. For urgent matters—and especially for beginners—I recommend earthbound spirits, as they do not require the time factor as a criterion. You’ll find this explained very clearly in spellbooks: some spirits are summoned by scents and respond to specific incantations or chants regardless of the time, whether it’s a solar or lunar phase. It’s true that their effects are less powerful, but they’re very useful for quick and sudden matters. Finally, a true covenant with a spirit breaks down the barrier of space and time for both of you.

If you listened the latest glitch bottle podcast with Josephine McCarthy, she basically said something along the lines that now is not the time do to magic and make yourself visible to some powers. What are your thoughts on this? Something related to the destructive tides and so on...

There are very few such magical works that require waiting months and years in order to obtain the desired astrological location of the planets. In most cases, it is sufficient to take into account the phases of the moon, day and clock. Thus, it is possible to meet the deadline in a few weeks.

My Guru used to say that Wednesday, Mercury Day, can be used as a substitute for other planetary days. For example, if you need to perform a Mars ritual, and Tuesday has already passed, you can perform it at Mars hour on Wednesday. Or, you need to perform a Saturn ritual, but you don't have time to wait until Saturday, you can perform this ritual at Saturn hour on Wednesday.

This is not a full-fledged replacement, and is only used when there is no time to wait. It's like an urgent surgical operation compared to a planned one.

It takes a bit more astrological awareness but I always pair planetary hour and day with the right conditions by dignity for the planet required. However, useful times can be used I have found by using another planet that is currently talking to the planet if it is in good condition. For example, I effectively worked with Jupiter recently on the Sun’s day in Jupiter’s hour whilst the two were in close conjunction and the Sun was in powerful dignity. So sometimes you can do a bit of jiggery pokery like that.

Astrological timing can matter a lot in spellwork.
Think of is planting a garden without checking the weather. You might plant in perfect conditions. You might plant in scorching heat, hard dry soil, or right before a torrential downpour. Same seeds, same intention, completely different conditions.

That is astrology and spellwork. The moon phase, planetary days and hours, aspects, retrogrades, the condition of the moon, personal astrology, and then the actual physical environment around you.

Weather, storms, temperature, noise, privacy, EMF, geomagnetic activity, KP index, Schumann resonance and other factors can all affect the conditions you’re working in. Then add your own condition on top of that. Tired, angry, focused, sick, emotionally charged, distracted, calm. It all becomes part of the operation.
This gets complicated fast, so people ignore most of it and try to overpower the spell. More ingredients, more correspondences, stronger emotional charge, blood or other bioenergetic anchors, longer rituals, more repetition. More force doesn’t always fix bad conditions. Sometimes it just adds more noise.

Good timing should make the spell easier to carry. Like planting in soft ground on an overcast spring day with a light drizzle instead of trying to force the same garden into dry ground under the middle of the summer sun.
It doesn’t guarantee success. It just means you’re not fighting the conditions more than you have to.

When I initially designed the system I use, I built it to address these issues and to facilitate those calculations. I consider them very important.

Think of the stars as the tide. You can navigate against certain tides with success if you’re skilled, and very bad tides if you’re very skilled. But you’ll always do better with it in your favor.

My thoughts are that Josephine McCarthy's ideas and theories on magic are contradictory and change from interview to interview, publication to publication, and she should not be taken seriously as she brags consistently about not reading books while being an author herself.
