To broaden my horizons. To become a wiser person, and by 'wiser', I mean "more skilled at dealing with reality". Scholar Wouter J. Hanegraaff called occult lore 'rejected knowledge', and that's exactly what it is - information and know-how hardly anybody cares about. To my mind, it's first and foremost about finding uncoventional solutions in order to avoid bad decisions and make better life choices. Experience is part and parcel of the whole endeavour. Some books I read more or less for entertainment purposes, e.g. about the history of occult ideas, but then I'm aware of that fact and don't expect to learn anything practical from them. It's the books I can apply in daily life that fascinate me, that show me how to view reality in a different light or spot connections I had been unaware of before.

Another objective is empowerment. Consensus reality doesn't allow for the manipulation of events by occult means. Magic, on the other hand, makes you feel less like a victim of circumstance, it's a way of cheating fate, so to speak. And in order to know which invisible levers to pull, you need wisdom. That's why I don't like deterministic systems that actually limit your options by postulating all sorts of spurious 'laws' as well as a celestial bureaucracy supposedly enforcing them. For me, occultism is about liberating my mind and gaining more freedom, and that's enough of a noble goal, in my opinion.

It really depens on the occult Framework you use to understand the world.
Different believes or religions aim for different end goals.
But in the end it just boils down to how you cope with the End. Be it salvation/damnation, rebirth or extinction.
Of course along the way you have to deal with something called the human condition. Your needs, your wishes, your fears and every other emotion.
The occult encapsulates these states of being and lets you express them through your pratice.

Well. The absolute end is a unique type of suspension of disbelief which taps into the vital-essence of each and everything. Because this vital-essence is immaterial, it is always and forever concealed from direct observation using the physical senses. That's why occult topics are naturally conducive and encourage communion with this essential, immaterial, vitality.

There are other ways, of course. But in this modern world, where knowledge is cheap, freely flowing, and easily manipulated, there is very little to encourage appreciation for the immaterial and the quasi-material. "Knowing things" with specificity makes people feel like Gods. "Knowing" is like a drug. Most modern people are addicted to it. Practicing and learning the occult is the remedy.

It depends on what you desire to achieve with it. One may use the occult strictly for material gain (rituals to get rich, Lakshmi mantras for money etc.), while others may use it to obtain the Salvation / Ascension of their soul, either through communion with a deity / deities / spirit / spirits (RHP), or through what is called as self mastery without divine communion (LHP).

For me I think the final / end goal of the occult is for deepening the connection with the Divine and the whole Universe, enabling you to discover greater patterns as well as realms and spirits, and provide a point of evolution both to the practicioner as well as others; an experienced practitioner should help others who really wish to be enlightened.

For me it was a way to heal myself from past traumas and grow out of things I couldn't overcome using mundane psychological approaches. I needed something more, something "spiritual" in my life, because I needed to believe in something that could give me hope and feel motivated to continue living. So in a very literal sense, this stuff saved my life at a time when nothing else really seemed to be helping. Ever since then it's been a discovery and growing process where I become more and more aware of my own individuality, as well as how that balances with my place within external structures of power that I once felt were my enemy. Now I feel indifferent toward many of the things that have "challenged" me in life when I was younger. The biggest takeaway from all of this is that I am ready to accept and find ways to haggle with my demons, to some degree, so they can be more like rivals in a poker game that keep the stakes high, rather than "enemies" that are inherently "bad".

Making money, finding love, tackling profane issues, all of those achievements are mostly incidental rewards for the hard inner work this stuff enables me to do better than anything else I've learned in life.

Effective as a Socratic response for sealing in one's blood the larger philosophical assumptions in what is even being asked by the OP.

Are not exclusively occult goals. And Salvation is particular to certain assumptions about reality.
What material gain is exclusive to occultists? There are answers to this that would also be particular to assumptions about reality.
Yet, if redefined as theurgy and thaumaturgy and connected to the now of the individual, one to hook up power then the other to employ it.
